Which Would Be A Good Baseball Topic To Cover?

Question:As part of my writing assignment in my English class, I have to type up a research project on any controversial issue. Being a diehard baseball fan (GO DODGERS!!), I have decided to cover something revolving around baseball. But I am stumped on the particulars of a subject I want to cover. I am thinking of the steroid controversy, but what specifics regarding that would you think would be good to cover, or any other controversial baseball topics? Thanks!

Best Baseball Team in the MLB right now and you think will go to the World Series?

The Designated Hitter. I wrote a speach about it last year.

If you want to do steroids you can do something with the different uses. They aren't just used to get bigger and stronger. They can be used to speed recovery, so a player can last the whole season.

If you go with the steroid scandal... The controversy of Barry Bonds eclipsing the home run record of Hank Aaron. I mean Bonds has never been caught using steroids but everyone believes he did... so did he cheat... do his numbers count.. should baseball acknowledge his record home run if he gets there (22 to go) It's interesting and definately controversial.

What team won the most awards last year?

Talk about the BALCO Steroid Scandal in San Fran, players who have admitted, accused are suspected (Bonds, Giambi, Sosa, Matthews Jr., Mora, Roberts, etc.) The effects on their bodies, the punishments, how it ruins the game... It'd probably be a good idea on how to stress its not fair for guys who don't take steroids not getting records and posting big numbers.

Would players of old days compete in todays games?

I would definetly do the steroid controversy. You could maybe cover the topic of Bonds or how steroid affects players' careers and reputations. McGwirer, Bonds, & Conseco would be good guys to cover with this.

Baseball trivia question?

Ok, maybe you could talk about how baseball has changed. I did that in 6th grade and it was awesome. I talked about the bats have changed, and the mitts. i don't know if that helped or not.

The construction of new stadiums - from the 1990s frenzy to the present - and should the public pay for it through taxes and other handouts or should the teams build their own houses?

In Cleveland, for example, a countywide sin tax on alocohol and cigarettes as a main funding source for the Gateway stadium project passed by a slim margin - and probably would have failed if the arena wasn't made part of the plan.

In Columbus, voters rejected an additional tax for a downtown arena - where the Blue Jackets play - but developers and other investors stepped up to make the project a reality, with little public monies earmarked for it.

Why does baseball have a dugout?

Here's one that I personally care about - fantasy sports and baseball. Apparently baseball (mlb) believes that they own the actual statistics for their players. Not just the images or video or any other player likeness stuff, but the actual statistics. The stuff you see in the box score in the paper. Baseball is the only sport that has put up a fight like this. Here are a couple of links to get you started.:

I of course have an opinion - look what fantasy sports has done for football. Directv subscriptions to Sunday Ticket are up 10% per year - due in part one would think to the 15M people who play fantasy football in the U.S.:

Your onto the real controversey. As a ball supervisor of
25 stadiums I would ask this, why do people believe television? This controversial topic is related to the facts and
the experience are paid for by educational owners. What
people do not know is who pays those salaries that all the
stadium shows off each day. Over 80% of the operating
paychecks are from farm restaurant chains. Another 14%
is from equipment, snacks, and vacation agencies that use
the stadium facility to raise such monetary activity.
What do the shareholders want to do with their budget, money has been badly used for nearly its entire history by local politics. A real important issue is what sports are these television shows teaching the children and their future. http://www.unitednations.com

To me, the shameful heart of the steroids controversy is that MLB turned a blind eye to it when it was evident 10 years ago. Remember that after the strike in 1994, baseball lost a lot of interest. What brought a lot of fans back and also new fans, was Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa chasing the single season home run record.
