The Yankees pitching is in a shambles, that is the reason they signed Clemens in the first place. The team is desperate for starting pitching. Clemens is simply the best pitcher available that the Yanks didn't have to give up a prospect or a regular player for. He definetly will help them, but as far as total pitching staffs are concerned, the Sox win this one hands down.What is the highest average by a player by end of the season?
Sox are liked 3rd-5th in MLB in ERA or something, Schilling 3.something, Beckett high 2's, Matsuzaka is 5+ but that isn't going to last, Wakefield is 2, Tavarez is high, but has started against Millwood, Hallday(2), Wang and almost beat Santana.And the Sox have talented lefty Jon Lester coming back, looking really good. That rotation is mostly young and energetic, and those who are not, are looking strong.
Yankees is anything but young and strong, Clemens cannot last a full seasonn, and struggled late last year, Wang is good, Mussina is a mystery at this point but should provide something, Pettitte is good, but again 6innings, Hughes is a key. - Can the Yankees be healthy and good enough?
The Sox have the best 5 now, probably the Best 5 when Clemens/Lester return.
And the Sox have better depth, with guys named Hansack and Gabbard with good MLB experience and good permances in AAA, Tavarez, Synder. doing ok now.
Yankees have Pavano, Igawa, Rasner, Karstens.. None have exactly been brilliant this year, Rasner was good today however.
