What is the average speed a freshman should pitch in high school?

Question:just wondering if i'm where i need to be

Answers:

Number of Seats?

As a freshman you should be in the low to mid 70's unless you are phenom. Many people have not developed all of the necessary skills to pitch effectively at that age. Not to mention you are still growing. Your fastball should jump significantly when you reach your junior and senior year. Work on your arm strength and mechanics. Mechanics can really provide alot of velocity to your pitches and also prevent arm injuries.

It depends of the shape of your arm. some kids play a lot of game in the summers and some just play casual, if you throw every day then your arm should be able to take harder throwing.

As a baseball fan, what makes opening day so special to u?

I would say you should be around the mid to upper 70s, I was throwing 77-78 as a freshman, by the time i was a senior i was hitting 88-89. Let your arm develop and make sure you play long toss every day and lifting weights always helps.

Also remember it isn't always how fast you throw but you location and movement.

Ok i'm soo sick of ppl who have been jumping on the brewer ban wagen?

Ballpark tours?

It all depends on what kind of pitcher you are. When Maddux was pitching at Valley High School in las Vegas their was a Freshmen named Danny Opperman that threw 88-91. Maddux was a Senior throwing the same. I heard Danny blew out his arm in AAA and never made it to the majors. Their was also a guy named Steve Chitren that pitched on the same squad and threw about 83-86 but had great control and killer movement and he pitched for the A's a few years.

So anything over 80 and you are where you need to be on speed IF your going to make it to the Pro's at some level BUT it is control and movement that will win gaves for you...

Even in the high 70's with good stuff you are okay...

What was that about A-rod?

well im a 14 year old pitcher going to try out for the freshman team and i throw in the low to mid 80's i asked the varsity coach and he said high 70's is where you should be, low 80's some people reach that but you will need to build up your arm strenght
