Question:I have never before in my life more transparently seen how much it is about the money and ego for some players.

He almost reminded me more of a politician when the announcement was made rather than JUST a ball-player. He's a money-grabbing ego-stroker in my book and I hope the Yankees miss the playoffs entirely.

Actually, for Clemens it's about the money and privilleges.

The Yankees tried to sign him last year, but wouldn't allow him to go home between starts.

This time around, they said he can do whatever he wants when he's not pitching.

I don't have a problem with him pitching 2/3's of a year. I don't mind him announcing it in grand style.

I do have an issue with any claim that he is interested in winning another ring though. If he really wanted to win, he wouldn't have needed a 28 million (prorated) contract.

I can't imagine he needs the money,.
But, Yankees brass and fans know, deep down, they weren't making the playoffs with the team they had anyway.

Personally, i think he is a joke. He is getting too old, and too greedy. Soon, the stuff will hit the fan, and Rodger Clemens will be no more. He will be another old broken down baseball player looking back at life and wondering.

I'm not too surprised. He has friends on that team. And to top it all off, he has a big ego. NY is doing shitty, he wants to be the hero to come save the team. Good luck to him. It won't make that much of a difference. They will need to make some more trades to be a "good" team at this point.
