I heard some people say Ortiz is only goo cause Manny hits behind him?

It's made to help the 1B scoop balls in the dirt. I played for 15+ years, and I can tell you that it really was easier to scoop with that glove than a standard fielder's glove.

I have a baseball question.?

So they can scoop bad throws in the dirt. That's why the webbing is bigger.

Whats your favorite baseball team?

They're heavily padded because the basemen spend their days catching balls thrown very hard. They're longer to help them field balls.

Does anyone know why the Red Sox were wearing Green and White on Fri. night's game w/ the Yanks?!?

It is larger and designed to dig out throws from other players to make the out at first base. Other infield players have to both catch the ball and throw almost every time they come in contact with the ball. So their glove is smaller so they can get the ball out of the glove easier in order to throw it.

Are the yankees really the most valued team in the world?

Dang, thought I "scooped" you all on this one. Gotta go with #1 and #3 on this one kid. They are right.

What is the best team in the American League?

First basemen's mitts are generally very long and wide to help them with scooping badly thrown balls from infielders.
These mitts lack individual fingers.

AND...
Catcher's mitts have extra padding and a hinged, claw-like shape that helps them to catch 90+ mile per hour fastballs, and provide a good target for pitchers to throw at. If required to catch a knuckleball, a catcher will typically use an even larger mitt.

Pitcher's gloves usually have a closed webbing to allow them to get a grip on the ball without tipping their pitches.

Outfield gloves are usually quite long, to help with both catching fly balls on the run or on a dive and so they do not have to bend down as far to field a ground ball, so they can return it to the infield.

Infield baseball gloves other than the first basemen's tend to be smaller, to allow the fielders to easily remove the ball from their glove to make a quick throw to a base.

How much is this baseball card worth?

First base is ussually played by the weakest defensive player. So depending on the players it is sometimes bigger then the catchers glove.

How many Yankees fans are actually Yankees fans?

go play a game at 1st base with a regular fielders glove and you will find out.
