Daisuke Matsuzaka / Johan Santana ?
Question:I'm just curious as to how and why so many people are projecting Daisuke Matsuzaka to have Cy Young type Johan Santana numbers in his first year in the majors? This is not Japan people.

Sports people are always intrigued by the unknown... Remember Sid Finch? Johan is the bomb. Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt are better than Dice K, so is Brandon Webb and Carlos Zambrano, and probably 10 others like Ben Sheets, Scott Kazmir and Cole Hamels. It's hype. He'll probably have 12-14 wins with a 3.50-4.00 era. He is a solid pitcher, please don't get me wrong, but "way-hyped". It sells jersey's and tickets. By the way, there is no gyro-ball... Matsuzaka is way overrated. He will not win the Cy Young.I believe Andy Pettite will win the Cy Young.

No... Johan santana is the best Player in the pitching world at this moment. Matsuzaka has to pitch lights out for the next 3 years to even hear a comparison. Matsuzaka is Righty and walks to many people right now and has never faced. (great compeition) I am not saying Matsuzaka is not good. I am saying that Johan is in a league of his own. (possibly Harden will join him but thats up in the air)Because Red Sox fans are so desperate to be better than the Yankees that they'll believe anything. They actually once thought Nomar Garciaparra was better than Derek Jeter. Before that, they thought Wade Boggs was better than Don Mattingly. Before that, they thought Jim Rice was better than Reggie Jackson. Before that, they thought Ted Williams was better than Joe DiMaggio. those people are crazy. but if their is a chance it is because he is from japan and their pitching release points and their timing throws a lot of hitters off, that is their major part of their succes. like nomo the first years he was invinsible but after hitters got the hang of him it was over.but not a cy young candidate.This is not Japan people. Dice-K is no Santana no matter how much ESPN and Red Sox fans hype him. He walked 11 guys in 26 innings in Spring Training. If he walks that many guys during the regular season, the lineups in the AL East are going to shell him.What does PF and PA mean in baseball Terms.?
i think that Matsuzaka will have a good season for the Red Sox, but not a Cy Young year his first season. Maybe the next year after he gets use to the Major League hitters, and I'm not just saying this because I'm a fan of the Red Sox, I'm saying this because I think Matsuzaka has the stuff to be excellent.
