Why is it more difficult to pitch out of "the stretch" in Baseball?
Question:I am curious of a few things. Why wouldn't a pitcher always pitch from the stretch rather than the wind-up.

What constitutes a "save oppurtunity" in baseball?
It's harder because when you are going out of the stretch, it is because you are either A) more comforatble with it, or B) there is a runner on base. If there is a runner on base, it's harder because you have to be aware of the runner and make sure you get through your motion fast enough in case the runner is stealing. But the main reason is because when you are pitching out of the wind up you throw the ball harder and have more command of your pitches.I was just wondering how many teams does Cy Young hold the victory total record?
When pitching out of the stretch, it takes a lot more energy to get the same velocity and movement on a ball. You have less movement to work with forcing you to put more effort into pitching and a runner on base gives you something more to have to concentrate on.The stretch is usually harder because:
1. You grew up pitching from the wind-up, so you are more comfortable with the wind-up
2. You do not have as much momentum going towards the plate going from the stretch as from the wind-up. This is because in the stretch, you throw from an upright standing position. From the wind-up, you rock back before you throw, giving you more momentum.
3. You are too focussed on the runner. When there is a runner on base, the pitcher usually is thinking too much about the runner, taking velocity and speed off the pitch.
The stretch is used when there are runners on base. Because the wind-up takes longer to deliver than the stretch, the runner would be able to steal a base easier, as the ball would take longer to get to the plate. In my opinion, it is easier to throw from the wind-up, because I grew up with it, but the stretch is always necessary when there are runners on base to keep them from getting a free base.
How can I become a better pitcher?
Some do pitch exclusively out of the stretch, but most use the windup if the bases are empty. You get more velocity out of the windup, and most pitchers are taught to pitch that way from Little League. Pitching from the stretch takes a pitcher out of his rythym and takes away some of the speed from a fastball. Ironically, the pitch generally gets to the catcher faster out of the stretch, so the pitcher will use it with men on to cut down on steals.Who will go all the way in the MLB this year and what teams?
Some pitchers always pitch out of a stretch... Huston Street comes to mindFor true Braves fun.1999 Atlanta Braves Roster, where are these players playing now?
most pitchers who go full windup are basically getting a running start and from the strech ur motion is faster but ur arms can't keep up with ur lower part of the body,it takes pratice to get good at it
