Pete Rose!As a long time, anti Rose person, I believe he deserves the nod for one very important reason.
The HOF has a long standing reputation of making it perfectly clear when a ball player who served in more than one capacity to have his HOF career listed as seperate from his non HOF career(I.E. Babe Ruth as a player = HOF. Babe Ruth the manager + non HOF).
Therefore, Pete Rose the player =HOF... Pete Rose the manager =non HOF.
On a side note, I find it moronic that one of the people(who sits on the HOF comittee no less) who is against Pete being in the HOF is Gaylord Perry. He stated that Rose, by betting on baseball, may have made choices he may not have normally made to try to win games, thereby changing the possible outcome of those game, and "cheating" the game itself. Ironic that Gaylord Perry was WELL known as a "greaser" and did so so often, that to keep the umps fooled he would "grease" up in several spots so if the Umps told him to wipe down he had other places he could grease the ball from. He speaks of his ability to fool the umps with great pride. Now, this HOF pitcher, who calls Rose a cheat, and is againt him in the HOF, admits with great pride that he CHEATED his whole career, which in effect, cheats the game and effects the outcome.
Rose isnt in the HOF simply because it isnt populer for him to be their. They ahve allowed racists, wife beaters, convicted rapists, murderers, drug dealers, and child abusers, but HEY. they were populer as ball players so lets let them in.
At this point, i think if Pete gets in, it will lower the integrity of Pete Rose and NOT the HOF.

Neither i'd write in "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. I can't spout out stats, but I know he was a career .300 hitter during the dead ball era and from everything I've read and watched about him he deserves a plaque over a man that bet against his own team and a steroid abuser!BEEJEE- He admitted to betting FOR his own team, but several former players and writers seem to think he also bet against his own team. How can you believe anything he says about it when his story has changed so much. And LOOK at barry bonds. He was on steroids. Furthermore I don't care if they all three go into the hall, they are all three hall of fame caliber athletes. The 185 pound barry bonds was a hall of famer in my book, but an astericks deserves to be beside they're names. Baseball has a morality clause. So far of the three names I mentioned Barry Bonds hasn't broken the morality clause and the other two have. So he'll probably get in before either of the other two do.

Additionally, I don't see anything wrong with an asterisk at either name in the hall.

This is a great question, but my answer here breaks my own heart.No one has ACTUALLY convicted Barry Bonds of anything. No solid proof exists. The info on Bonds in "Game of Shadows" is, unfortunately, as yet uncorroborated per se since the bona fides of the grand jury testimony can't be proven. Charlie Hustle on the other hand ACTUALLY admitted complicity in his scandal.
By the rationale presented in this question, i.e. based upon a question of simple morality, for whom would you vote, Barry gets the vote.
On the other hand, if someone can prove Barry doped, then by the rationale of the question any baseball fan would/should consider abstaining.
Of course, based on pure numbers, each player gets a vote (and a plaque).

Pete Rose. His stats as a player are far greater. Bonds used steroids and has lied over and over about it. His homerun record should be removed from the books..or at least put an astricks by it.

He is accused of "knowing" the WS was fixed but did everything in his power to win it. In fact, if the White Sox had won it he would have been the MVP. His career stats are up there with anyones...

But IF I have to vote between Barry and Rose and HAVE to vote for one... I'd say Bonds. I am 100% convinced he cheated but it was a form of cheating that was taking place through out the Majors at the time and it was being done by 20-30% (my guess) of the players. Gambling on the games calls into question the very integrity of the game and then there is no game at all... Rose never bet on the Reds but he did fail to bet ON them when certain pitchers went which tells the bookies the mgr thinks they will lose... But I HOPE to see neither in...

BARRY BONDS PERIOD!Pete Rose signed a agreement as a manager stating that he would never bet on the game of baseball. He dishonored that agreement and dishonored himself as well.
Why in the hell would you want a man like that in the hall with great men who played an honored this game with respect and integrity? He doesn't deserve the honor.
And just so you know. Baseball no longer considers Pete Rose to be and issue at all. The matter of Peter Rose and baseball and been officially closed! So stop asking and whinning about this moron getting into the hall. It's not going to happen.
