Who is a better home run hitter Babe, Hank, Joshua Gibson or Bonds?
Question:Joshua Gibson played for Homestead Grays (Negro League) and never had a chance to play in MLB but hit almost 800 home runs.
Answers:
Greatest hitter?; Williams, Ruth, Cobb, or who else?
I can only comment on who I've seen play. Bonds is the best I've seen. I think historically, it would be Josh Gibson. He once hit 81 HRs in a season, and hit the only fair ball out of Yankee Stadium. Had he played in the MLB, he would have broken all kinds of records. He also was a consistent hitter, hitting over .400 twice, and batting over .370 for his career. His only drawback was he was a teammate of the greatest pitcher of the time, Satchel Paige, so he didn't face him.
There was so much positive written about Josh Hancock in the wake of his death...?
I would personally say Hank Aaron not only because he hit the most, but also because he did it on pure talent. No steriods, no corked bat, and horrible technoligy in the bats and balls. He hit all of his home runs on pure strength and talent. As for Josh Gibson, if the fences are shorter in the Negro League then not him. If they are the same distance, then he's probably the best.Do the red sox have a chance at sweeping the jays and yanks this week?
its proabbly bonds or joshua cuz ur right about joushua so its a really close call.Bonds for sure...He still hitting the ball out of the park
If you could hand pick any 3 MLB players to start a franchise, who woud you take?
definetely not bonds but its a close call between these other fellas. I would have to say Babe, because his homeruns meant something more than a run.Who wins?? boston or new york?
Joshua Gibson all the way man. I remember he actually hit over 800 homers. Will the brewers keep up the pace that they started at?
Its clearly Bonds. Will kelly johnson be an all star 2nd baseman for the braves this year?
Man i wish i had a chance to see josh gibson. For him to hit that many homers in the negro leagues, when everyone KNEW how good he was only proves that he many have done the same thing in the majors.Too bad the majors werent ready for him.
Doesn't ROGER CLEMENS look good in a Yankee cap AGAIN?
id say babe ruth.ballparks were bigger then and he wasnt helped by any drugs, hot dogs and beer thats it for the babeWhy is Jeff Weaver still in the Majors?
We don't have anything near complete stats for the Negro Leagues, but Josh Gibson probably did hit more HR's than any other player in North American baseball history. We also don't have stats for the Cuban league, so it could be that someone there has been more prolific than has either Aaron or Gibson.I'm surprised that you didn't include Sadaharu Oh in your list. For the records that we do have, Oh was the most prolific HR hitter in professional baseball, with 868 round trippers.
I refuse to acknowledge any of the HR's that Bonds has hit since the end of the '98 season. Every one of them since then has been illegally chemically enhanced.
Does anyone know about Anita Marks? She is so cool, I am lookingfor info about her.?
not bonds---he's juiced!Who is better Jose Reyes or Derek Jeter?
The BABE, he did it in an era where the ballparks were so big, don't know if any of you have been to Yankee Stadium but where the center field fence was back in Babe's day wan an enormous hit.Hank Aaron
Alright, I guarantee half of these people don't even know who Josh Gibson WAS (probably just agreeing with the most obvious answer for some points). It's obviously him, but not only did he set a phenomenal overall home run record, people forget that he hit over 70 home runs in one season long before Mark McGwire or Barry Bonds were even conceived. Not to mention the absence of high-performance equipment and the questionable honesty of HGH users in the major leagues...
However, I feel that two very important names were omitted from this short list. Many don't remember or have never realized that Ted Williams and Willie Mays lost many years to the major leagues due to their service fighting for our country.
Ted hit 521 homers in his lifetime, which was at the time third behind only Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx. And it doesn't stop there. Hollywood screenwriters would have a difficult time believing that "The Kid" hit a home run in his final at-bat to end a script that wrote itself.
"The Say Hey Kid" Willie Mays hit 660 homers in his lifetime, and he was recently quoted as saying that he believes he could have hit well over 800 homers in his lifetime if he hadn't fought overseas for years.
Not to mention home runs are completely overrated. Ted hit an incredible .406, the last player to do so in the major leagues Nowadays, even with the advanced equipment, no one can even come close to such a mark!
How many wins will josh becket have this year?
Josh Gibson was the best the fences were not much shorter than Major league and some of the best pitchers in baseball at that time were in the Negroe League racism kept these great players from showing their talent. True baseball people know the truth Gibson was mythical. Jackie Robinson was the first not the best. Josh, Bonds, Mays ,Aaron,Ruth and Mantle.i'd say hank aaron,
but sadaharu oh should be included in this topic (japanese baseball hit over 800)
Losing a no hitter in 8? Is it an official no hitter?
