Question:A-Rod $27 million, Jason Giambi ($23.4 million), Derek Jeter ($21.6 million), Manny Ramirez $17 million, Mike Mussina and Bartolo Colon each make $16 million. The thing that is out of whack is when players go into contract negotiations and start making wild comparisons and cry fair "market value" based on two or three seasons when they were in their prime.
It's a monster that feeds off of itself as it skews the balance of what teams HAVE to pay for a player of equal or greater stats (if A-Rod is worth $27 million, I had a BETTER season so I must be worth $30 mill)
Eventually you end up with players who become overpriced financial liabilities by the end of the contract where no team is willing to accept a high price tag for someone who is a mere shadow of what they once were.

Well, it depends. The superstars that put butts in the seats are getting compensated for their maketability. So, for them, they are paid fairly.But for some guy like Scott Podsednik of the White Sox, who gets like 4 million a year, when he hits around .270 and basically has no power, THAT's the kind of guy who is overpaid.
And it's that exact kind of overpaid money that allows a guy like Podsednik to obtain that Playboy Centerfold trophy wife that he has.
