Its the Red Sox series in '04. They should of won that series especially after the killing they put on them in game three. They were facing a tired team with an overworked pitching staff. That collapse was historic, since no other team in history has ever lost a 3-0 lead. While the '01 series was very disappointing, it was a great series and The D_backs deserved it, the disappointment came from the fact that as a Yankee fan, until that point, once Mariano took the mound you assumed it was game over. That being said, the '04 ALCS was by far not only our biggest failure but possibly the biggest failure in the history of baseball. their worst failure was paying jason giambi more money than they could have had barry bonds for. Barry flat out said he would play for them for 6 yerar 90 million in 01 and they paid giambi instead. STUPID STUPID STUPID!! they win in 04 and a couple other times if they put their money in the right place Your scenerio's were only one loss each. See, this is why Yankees fans are so insufferable -- taking the World Series to Game 7 JUST IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH if it ends in defeat. Good grief, there are teams out there whose fans would be tickled sick with a mere wild card berth. (That Series should have ended in five with Arizona winning anyway; the Yankees really did not play well, but got a few extremely fortuitous homers. Well, that does happen.)Forty years in the desert would do these people some good.
Anyway... the 2004 ALCS got a name attached to it, and a good one -- The Greatest Choke In Baseball History -- so I'd go with that. One inning from winning and advancing, at the very brink, and Boston fought all the way back in unprecedented style.
