When I was a kid, we frequently visited our cousins in New York, and we had an understanding between us: if the Yankees were doing poorly, we'd all root for the Tigers, and vice versa. To this day the Yankees are still my second-favorite team.
And to answer your question: the Tigers signify HOPE for every single team in the league, overcoming all those horrible years to become the American League champs last year! They're the most exciting team in baseball.
