Why wont people cut Bonds some slack?
Question:I'm a single white male from St. Louis. All these Bonds bashing has gone way out of hand. I'm not trying to excuse McGuire but we all forgot about his steroid non issue after he sat in front of Congress. He still hasnt admitted to it and they never tested him positive. I know its the same with Bonds but why cant we just cut the guy some slack and let him play baseball assuming he is clean since everybody is tested?

I'm also white and I dont condone cheating, but I wont act like a spoiled child who doesnt get what he wants. Being a gentleman that I am, I will celebrate the moment when Barry Bonds breaks the homerun record. It is one of the most covetted record in all of sports and it means a great deal to achieve what he has done. It takes years of dedication and excellence. You have to be able to hit on average 40 home runs a year for almost 20 years.. TWENTYYEARS.. that in itself is a great accomplishment. Having that said, lets leave the steroid verdict to the court of law or MLB not the court of heresay or opinions.To sum it up, sure I suspect Bonds of juicing, but I admire him for doing what hes doing right now on the baseball field.

Bonds did admit to it, in a grand jury. Who cares if it was supposed to be confidential.His own personal trainer and the person who supplied said trainer with steroids have served jail time for this.

I get tired of defending bonds in my work place all the time. these people are just cardinal fans not baseball fans....but i cant get through to them. Nice to know there is another baseball fan in missouri. I love the cardinals...but damn bonds is good. I wish the cards would have signed after 01 season. He flat out said he would play for cards, yankees or boston for 6 year 90 million deal....instead cards paid almost that much for tino martinez and moved our franchise player albert pujols to left field....lol If they just leave albert at first where he belongs and pay bonds to play left we got 4 or 5 world series championships right now. He will NEVER be the man, the GENTLEman, or the ball player Hank Aaron is and doesn't deserve the admiration of anyone, let alone another record. He belongs in the same hall of fame as Pete Rose.

If it looks like a fish, smells like a fish, and tastes like a fish, guess what? It`s a fish. There`s more than enough evidence to say he cheated. He admitted he took the steroids, but wants everyone to believe he`s so stupid, he didn`t know what they were. What says it all for me is, Hank Aaron will not make the trip to watch him break the record. I don`t think it`s sour grapes on his part, it`s more likely ,he knows Bonds is a cheater & doesn`t want to appear to condone it.Where can i buy yankees tickets?
For those who recall the Pirates days, there was Bonds; Bonilla; and Van Slyke. Of that bunch, Van Slyke was probably the friendliest and he was like approaching a wolverine with an ingrown toenail.Bonds has always been stand-off-ish to the media, regardless of his numbers, records, or physical appearance. He never achieved the level of confrontation of some players, but he was certainly never the media darling of others, so I think there's always going to be some degree of tension there from both sides.
As to the man personally <shrug> I dunno. He may be just like we see in the media or he may be diametrically opposite. It's tough to say with public figures. I do think he used steroids at some point in his career, but I don't necessarily believe that should warrant a ban from the game or the HoF. Steroids will never help with hand-eye coordination. They will never help with determining the strike zone. They reduce flexibility, in turn affecting bat speed. Despite that, Bonds has consistently put up .300 season after .300 season. He is one of probably only two active players who can sit back and look off-speed pitch and still catch up with a fastball from most pitchers (the other being Sheffield). He has an uncanny awareness of the strike zone. Let's not forget, this is a guy who is only going to see one or two hittable pitches in a game. Before the 'roids can do their thing, he has to make contact.
I understand why he elicits so much emotion and I don't blame people on either side of the issue. But the fact is, he's 10 or so homers from breaking one of the most vaunted records in sports. The issue is no longer what we're going to do IF he breaks it, but what we're going to do WHEN he breaks it.
