Nobody. The game is just too competitive today and it has changed so much since 1941. The truly awesome players dominated the game more in the older days than they do today because the average player is better today. Players also swing for the fences more today. I think the Phillies have a good lineup to be contenders with the .400 club. Jimmy Rollins is a good hitter, as is Chase Utley if they get hot. If they are able to keep getting on base before Ryan Howard, I think Howard has the best chance as of right now. He is young and can hit for power while also using the whole ballpark to get hits. His power will aid his average in the BB department, which will help to boost his average. After that, I think Joe Mauer may give it another run, but i believe Howard has the best chance of doig it soon.Is dice-k really all that good??

I agree with Mauer having the potential. I think Akinori Iwamura could possibly do it as well. Not this year, but in the future.There are a lot of guys with the potential to do it, but I don't think any of them will for a variety of reasons. I'll give you my top 7 and tell you why I don't think they will do it. In particular order
Ichiro- Makes great contact, but doesn't walk very much which leads to a lot of at bats and a high number of hits to get to 400.
Mauer- He's a catcher and the position is too demanding.
Helton- A great hitter but age is starting to catch up with him.
Manny- He is a great hitter but lack of speed keeps him out of it because he can't beat out the infield hits.
Sizemore- In my mind has the best shot, but he isn't as good against lefties so he will have a hard time getting it.
Reyes- Also has a good shot with his improved contact and ability to make a grounder to short into a hit with his speed. Like Ichiro probably doesn't walk enough.
Bonds- Age and not getting enough pitches to hit will severly limit him. Also the fact that he only has a few seasons left to try for it.

i'd say jeter, ichiro or arod, it can't really be a power hitter cuz you need a looooooooot of singles to be able to hit .400, i don't think we'll ever see it again though. ichiro definatly has the best chance but even he wont get itMore Questions & Answers...
