Does anyone know where I could get a pair of cheap umpire pants online?
Outfielders vary in arm strength and styles of playing / stance. Off course, you need a crow hop and a "run-in" start to get more momentum for a good throw. Honestly, whipping your arm would tear your rotator cuff, and everything around your elbow. I know this because I'm a coach and I am a player. Plus, I'm an exercise physiology student from college. When you whip your arm you add a lot of stress on the elbow. Think of this symbol < . imagine if that was your arm. Awkward huh? The elbow is leading the whole force from your arm which strains everything.I would definitely recommend arm exercises, stretches to improve your overall arm strength. There are tons of good exercises that would help your arm... try focusing on your rotator cuff... it consists of a set of muscles (If one muscle is torn or hurt then your whole set of muscles in that area will be done). This will help you throw harder... plus all the surrounding muscles. I would also recommend an overhead or 3/4ths fingers on top of ball throw. Instead of whipping your arm, you can sling it as a catapole (spelling?). Overhead throws can bring more force to your throws and they'll go straight. If you depend on whipping from different arm angles then your throw path would be curving which isn't good in a relay. Straight up-spin throws are good. Again, crow hop, momentum starter, good stance... etc.
Good luck in your baseball season!
I'm not real sure what your goal is in throwing harder. If you are playing in the outfield are you crow-hopping? That helps to get your legs into the throw and get the momentum moving forward.
Relying on arm-whip to throw harder is an injury waiting to happen. The lower-leg mechanics need to be in coordination with the upper-body.
Good luck!
there are 2 things you can do. first throw a heavy ball. get a tennis ball and put some ball bearings in it and tape it up. that will help with your overall arm strength. Also when you lift (which im assuming you do) you need focus on the triceps. but dont neglect the bicep. these muscles work in tandom so youll need to have both of them strong to get all you can out of your arm.
addionally make sure you are holding the ball in yor finger timps and not down in the pad of you hand that takes velocity away and you end up throwning changeups all day long.
