I got my nine year old step son a 30in/21oz bat when he was eight. It all depends on the size of the child though, my stepson is 83 pounds and he has no trouble swinging a bigger bat. A smaller child needs a smaller bat. I wouldn't go smaller than 28 inches, kids grow up fast and by the end of the season he may be ready for a bigger bat.Why are my fantasy baseball stats not right?

you use a strength test. have your son hold the bat in his right hand (left if left handed) straight out even with his arm (barrel away from arm pit) and using only the wrist move the bat up to a right angel ( barrel to the sky) if its very easy the bat is to small, if he struggles bat is to big. i used this method through college.Why don't pitchers throw at hitters as much anymore? I miss that.?
i coach kids this age the national little league rule is as long as the bat barrel is no more than 2 and a quarter inches around it is ok to use but his age i would say 28 or 29 inchMore Questions & Answers...
