Chipper Jones or Troy Glaus- better 3B?
Question:Which 3B would you pay more to play? So, in other words, who's the better third baseman between the two?

What player on your favorite team really needs to step up and help the team this year?
Chipper Jones any day and every day. Troy Glaus is a career .254 hitter not even in the same league as Chipper. What was wrong with Cole Hamels today?
If i were Chipper Jones and heard that ild be insulted.. Jones is Potentially a HOF'er. Glaus is not getting in the HOF. Neither is very slick fielding at 3b, but i supposed Glaus is better. But when both are healthy...ild take Jones 7 days out of a 7 day week. He doesnt need a HR to beat you, Chipper can Single and Double AND Power you to death.. Glaus seems to always be swinging for the next county and whiffs ALOT.. no Thanx, i say Jones. Are there minimum dimensions for a major league baseball park?
well i dunno that is a tough question troy glaus is a good 3b but Since im a big Atlanta braves fan i think chipper Jones is since he is a Switch hitter he can hit and knock out homeruns from either side of the plate and he is really good on defense on 3b but he is can also play Lf alsoName of last major league baseball player to win MVP that was a switch hitter?
Its close. Defensively, they are a wash (Glaus's D has improved since coming to Toronto, he even looked decent at SS last year). Power is about even. Both have good HR and gap power. But I'd say Chipper by a hair, because he tends to take more pitches and, as a nice little bonus, is a switch hitter. How do i stop hitting ground balls in baseball.?
Glaus, he's better than the aging Jones, and will play far more games than chipper-he'll be on the DL within a monthWhat player "NOT" on your favorite team would like to see win a ring?
Is this a joke? Chipper would hit better than Glaus blindfolded.Jones all the way.
Any ideas how to stop this from happening?
I gotta go with Chipper on this one. Glaus goes on power spurts and then tanks every season. He can never maintain a solid average. These are Troy Glaus sabermetric numbers:
Black Ink: Batting - 4 (406) (Average HOFer ≈ 27)
Gray Ink: Batting - 43 (565) (Average HOFer ≈ 144)
HOF Standards: Batting - 26.8 (358) (Average HOFer ≈ 50)
HOF Monitor: Batting - 56.0 (325) (Likely HOFer > 100)
These are Chipper Jones sabermetric numbers:
Gray Ink: Batting - 88 (260) (Average HOFer ≈ 144)
HOF Standards: Batting - 50.3 (68) (Average HOFer ≈ 50)
HOF Monitor: Batting - 128.0 (103) (Likely HOFer > 100)
From a comparison of these two statistics, it seems like over the course of their careers, Chipper has been the better hitter.
When you neutralize their stats for park and league and team, Glaus far outproduces Jones though in home runs and RBI. For example,
2005 Glaus .253, 36 HR, 92 RBI , .868 OPS
Jones .288, 20 HR, 68 RBI, 942 OPS
2006 Glaus .242, 36 HR, 96 RBI, .836 OPS
Jones .319, 25 HR, 83 RBI, 987 OPS
Yet, Jones OPS is higher. Jones played in much less games the last two years.
So would you pay Chipper more to play in less games even though he is a better hitter? In the last two years there is a big difference in neutralized production with Glaus playing more games.
Although Chipper can play left field, I would think Glaus could as well. Glaus has played much more shortstop and more recently, and that is a much more difficult position to play.
It is important to note that Jones has had MVP votes in 10 different years, while Glaus only had MVP votes one year.
Yet Jones is 35 and his offensive production has been declining, while Glaus is 30 and in the middle of his peak offensive production years. Usually there is a sharp decline in offensive production after the age of 35.
I would pick Jones who is the better third baseman offensively for this year, but knowing that you would be paying more for a better player who might play much less and whose skills might be declining faster. If it was a long term contract I would pick Glaus.
WHAT, OF aNY WORtH ever CAME OUT OF BOSTON?
Chipper. Glaus has more power, but his BA and OBP are low. I would take Chipper, but he is injury prone.More Questions & Answers...
