I think it's better to give reasons why most people like these teamsYankees - either they're from NY, or they want to root for a team that always wins
Mets - either they're from NY or want to root for a team that is currently good (bandwagon fans)
If you fall under the "From NY" category, you could be annoyed by all of the fans who like the teams for any of the reasons I mentioned.
Myself....I hate bandwagon fans, fair weather fans, and to an extent.Homers.

I would go back the the Homerism..it's understandable that you would root for both teams...but i also think its a kissin' cousins kinda thing....you really shouldn't..no matter how much you want to haha

I'm from NY and I don't like either team for different reasons. You are probably the first person I have ever heard of being a fan for both teams and your definitely going to catch hell for it from both sides.
As a die-hard met fan, I would say you should just pick the mets as your favorite team and call it a day.
But in reality, there is no reason why you cannot like both the mets and the yankees. If you have no strong allegience to either team and want to cheer for them both you are more than able to do so. They play in two completely different leagues and only play each other 6 times over a one month stretch every year (that is unless they both make the world series).
People who are die-hard fans of either team are usually quick to make you pick a side, because they want to either embrace you as one of their own or shun you as "an other." Dont let them (and me since i tried in the opening paragraph) do this to you, stay true to yourself and enjoy the way each team plays the game of baseball, because they both play a different and equally exciting style of baseball.
Plus by being a fan of both teams you have a two in thirty chance of supporting a championship team, which is twice as good a chance as any yankee or met only fan.

If you are just a general baseball loyal to your city that has 2 teams in it then I don't see the problem.They play in different leagues so it's ok. It's a free country.

I think its completely wrong. New York has always been divided by the baseball teams. It was NEVER okay to be a Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees fan, you just didnt do that.Nowadays, you cant NEVER be a Mets and a Yankees fan. Its just wrong.

Pick a team and stick with them good or bad. You can have two favorite teams. It's not realistic and you can't be a true fan to one team if you turn around and root for another.Years ago before interleague play, I would say you wouldn't have a problem rooting for an AL and NL team. but now since they play each other more oftern you should choose. I am a Blue Jay fan first, and a fan of which every team beats the Yankees and Red Sox.

Your only problem is that you can't take up for both teams at the same time. You will eventually have to choose, like when they play each other in interleague play, or in a world series for example.It's all about the rivalry growing up and with your friends and companions. Sounds like it wasn't that intense of a rivalry with you.

I know alot of DIE HARD new yorkers who like both teams,all they love ny so much all they care about is that the state of NY bring home a trophy! So it's no big deal if you like both teams.I used to root for the mets when they played their league,But the met fans have gotten so arrogrant and stuck up,I never root for the Mets anymore,The fans are tooooooo much like Boston fans! Now i root for the Phillies and Cards!! But my favorate national team is the Cubs!
