A few drills that you can do by yourself are the fence drill, mirror drill and wall drill. They are all relatively easy and work on different aspects of your swing. The fence drill works on having a short swing. You take a bat and place the bat sticking oout from your hip so that it grazes the fence.(you are facing the fence) Staying in that position you take your normal stance and swing. If the bat hits the fence your swing is too long. Make sure that you are actually swinging the bat with your hands and not just pulling your hips and shoulders through to avoid hitting the fence. The mirror drill works on staying back and not over striding. Take your normal batting stance in front of a mirror (you don't need a bat). Place a piece of take on the mirror where your eyes are. Take your stance again and now actually take a step as if you were going to hit a pitch. Your eyes should be in the same place.
The wall drill can be done with or without a bat. Take your normal stance so that the wall is lined up as if it were the pitcher. Take your step and have the side of your foot hit the wall. This drill will help keep your front foot clsed throughout the swing so that you do not lose power by opening up the front side of your body.
Good luck!
hitting a ball off a tee is good for swing consistancy. Swinging a weighted bat is good for strength and a wiffle ball bat is good for speed. Go to a batting cage to face pitched balls. This is about the best you can do on your own. Also, if you can video tape your swing from different angles and look for areas of improvement.
Who was the first player in baseball to have his number retired?
The best way is to hit the batting cages. There's a video out that i think is great. It's Fred McGriff's hitting tape. Also, watch how pro's swing, and then get a videocamera and tape your swing; if you can watch your swing you'll be able to identify better the mechanical problems you may have in your swingLast night's game? using a tee works well on hand eye coordination. also, try drillling a hole through a ball and hanging in from a tree branch. hit it, and just keep hitting it when it comes aroundMore Questions & Answers...
