I'm the only girl in my baseball league, and my team is being sexist...?
Question:I've been playing in an all boys league for 6 years and have never had a problem. [oh and i'm in 9th grade]. I just had my first practice last night, and I got some sexist comments. Sure, they hurt. If my team is going to be like this, I don't want to play with them. What should I say to them, if anything?
I guess I just need some motivation! My friends have helped me out too, but what do you guys have to say?

It'll be hard to overcome those ridiculous comments. What exactly did they tell you? If they try to bring you down, just spring back up. Ignore the pigheaded freaks that refuse to believe the power you have to offer. You can get through it. Prove to them how valuable a player you are. Guys (especially in ninth grade) can be freakishly immature. Tell them to get over themselves and to open their eyes to the truth; you can play baseball a hell of a lot better than half the team. Say something like "I'm on the team already. Deal with it."It might help to use these comments as motivation too. When you hear them putting you down, just get out there and work even harder to prove them wrong.
If they still don't respect you, don't quit the team. That'll just mean the people who sexist comments can get you back by saying that you were never really involved.

Just tell them that you're sorry they're uncomfortable now that their getting their hormones all out of alignment, but they'd better get their butts into the shop, because the team needs to drive straight.

I have 3 daughters and they all play softball. from high school down to 12 and under. I'm sure you get the "why dont you play softball" question all the time so I wont ask it. The bottom line is its not easy being the first or the only. But if you've played baseball for 6 years you must be pretty tough. And if you have a passion for the game then dont let anything or anyone stand in your way. Thats the advice I would give my girls. Hi Chelsey,I'm sure your friends have given you the same advice, but the best thing to do is just ignore them. Guys who have high-school-level-maturity are going to take a cue from how their buddies react to you being on the team, rather than make up their own minds, so a lot of it is probably peer pressure. But if they don't appreciate you now, they definitely will in a few years. Honestly, these are the same guys that in a year or two will probably be asking you out, and if they don't appreciate you now, once you're out in the "real world" they will be tripping all over each other just to be the first one on your doorstep. Most guys would kill to have a girlfriend that truly understands, appreciates and enjoys sports.
If they continue to make comments and you feel you need to respond, just come up with some confident come-backs you can use in a pinch, like, "That's right, I'm a girl, and I can play ball and think at the same time, unlike SOME people!" Give it time, and I bet by the end of the season they will realize just how valuable you are to the team. Good luck to you, girl!

If its an all boys league, I guess youre lucky to be in the league at all. No disrespect or anything, but you give a woman an inch and then she wants a mile. Women have their own leagues for several different sports but still want to play in mens leagues. Michelle Wie has played in how many mens events and not made the cut in any of them and why did she get to play with the men? I couldnt tell you. She cant win a tournament of nothing but women, what makes anyone think she can even step onto a course with Tiger and Mickelson? And dont get me started on women trying to play football. You shouldnt say anything to anyone, suck it up or go play in an all womens league.When was the last time the St. Louis Cardinals started the season 0-3?
