I can't honestly say anyone, because he was literally a ONE man team. However, if one is to come close, it would have to be the greatest active player now, Albert Pujols (baring injury). People who could also be considered: A-Rod (PreYankees), If Howard builds on his 2006, Ken Griffey Jr, (prior to 2001 and the injuries) but not many others.

No one can compare to Babe Ruth. Not just b/c of how great of a hitter he was, but b/c the guy was one of the top pitchers in the game for 4-6 years. He was a 20 game winner several times and had an ERA of under 3.00 several times, therefore NO ONE in the game can compare to him. Even hitting wise, no one compares to him, there was a reason why he hit more HR's than TEAMS in alot of seasons, its b/c he was the greatest HR hitter ever. He hit bombs back when they were rare, he played in ballparks that were 380-400 down the lines and 470-490 to center, he played in an era where the pitching mound was 8 inches higher than today (24 inches instead of 18, gives pitchers advantage), he played in an era where in the offseason you didnt work out but you worked, an era where there wasnt "dieting" to get into shape, an era when technology didnt help the game and all the pitchers were dirty, he played in an era that guys today couldnt make it in.

Babe Ruth wasnt just a baseball player but a symbol for America at the time. Sure he was a coarse man child but he inspired a country in tough times and lived life large. He was a kid at heart and gave a lot back to kids. He had raw talent and dominated the majors without training or conditioning. Maybe his kind wouldnt make it in todays game but baseball was a different game back then. That truly was the Golden Age of baseball and America.

How do you think the Yankees will do this year since there pitching is done?

I don't think there has ever been another athlete who combined Ruths domination on the field, his popularity and media attention and his larger than life personality. Certainly nobody in baseball.
