Batted ball, line drive, ball sticks in glove, glove falls to ground, ball NEVER touches the ground, ruling?

Question:A batted ball was hit on a line drive to the pitcher, the momentum of the batted ball knocked the glove from the pitchers hand. The glove, with the ball stuck in it fell to the ground. The ball remained stuck in the glove and NEVER touched the ground. ISA rules Sec. 52 "In flight describes any batted, thrown, or pitched ball that has not yet touched the ground or some object other than a fielder". Any other rules that may apply?

Pete Rose: eligible or ineligible for the Hall of Fame and why.?

THAT IS NOT AN OUT..if the ball hits the glove and takes it off the fielders hand, AND BALL IN GLOVE TOUCH GROUND and ball stays in the glove, thats not an out, thats a live ball and until it is thrown to first, or the runner is tagged while off of whatever base he/she is advancing to or passed, the play is ALIVE.

I'm 21, can I play American Legion Baseball?

technically it would still be a live ball becasue the pitcher never actually caught it even though his glove came off with it. it was not in a players posession. but it would honestly be up to the umpire as to weather it was caught or live. i would call it the same as if it had touched his glove and continued flight.

Do you think the Yankees are ring material?

player is out because the ball knocked off the pitcher's glove and the pitcher did not throw the glove at the ball OUTTT

That is still considered an out. The BALL must touch the ground. Same rule for catching the ball with a hat.

It is in the opinion of the umpire if he had control of the ball before the glove is dropped. If he did not than it is just like a loose ball. he can pick it up and throw the whole glove to the first baseman if he wants.

Most umpires will rule this a live ball and the pitcher would still need to throw the runner out.

Rule 2.00 (Catch):
"A CATCH is the act of a fielder in getting secure possession in his hand or glove of a ball in flight and firmly holding it; providing he does not use his cap, protector, pocket or any other part of his uniform in getting possession. It is not a catch, however, if simultaneously or immediately following his contact with the ball, he collides with a player, or with a wall, or if he falls down, and as a result of such collision or falling, drops the ball. It is not a catch if a fielder touches a fly ball which then hits a member of the offensive team or an umpire and then is caught by another defensive player. If the fielder has made the catch and drops the ball while in the act of making a throw following the catch, the ball shall be adjudged to have been caught. In establishing the validity of the catch, the fielder shall hold the ball long enough to prove that he has complete control of the ball and that his release of the ball is voluntary and intentional.
Rule 2.00 (Catch) Comment: A catch is legal if the ball is finally held by any fielder, even though juggled, or held by another fielder before it touches the ground. Runners may leave their bases the instant the first fielder touches the ball. A fielder may reach over a fence, railing, rope or other line of demarcation to make a catch. He may jump on top of a railing, or canvas that may be in foul ground. No interference should be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk.
If a fielder, attempting a catch at the edge of the dugout, is “held up” and kept from an apparent fall by a player or players of either team and the catch is made, it shall be allowed."

Here's the important sentence:

"A CATCH is the act of a fielder in getting secure possession in his hand or glove of a ball in flight and firmly holding it"

If the fielder is not holding it, but rather, the glove is holding the ball separate from the fielder, the ball should be ruled live and not an out.

Edit: And you can't catch a ball with your hat, etc. It's not legal.
