Why is that certain teams can sign superstars fans don't say anything, but if the Yankees do it they are evil?

Question:Let's take the Mets and for instance.
They have signed Delgado, Beltran, Wagner, Martinez before he got hurt, Green who is still decent but not great. All of these players were and most still are all-star calibur. Nobody says a word. Reyes and Wright are the only two hitters from their farm system. Mike Pelfrey is the only pitcher.

The Yankees pick up Abreu last year because the Phillies didn't want to pay him and all hell breaks lose. Would it have been ok if the Mets had signed him?

Posada, Jeter, Cano, Rivera, DeSalvo, Pettitte, Wang, Hughes and Cabrera are all from the Yankee farm system.

The payroll is high due to the fact of the number of guys in the peak/fat part of their contracts.

Answers:

Do you think that breaking the career home run record is destined to always be accompanied by controversy?

The answer to this question is simple it is because the yankees are the most storied franchise in history of any sport. Everybody loves an underdog but the yankees are a perenial front runner and when they sign players that make them even better that pains people everywhere becasue they know that they now have another year of watching the yankees trounce their team.

Witch closing pitcher said "Dude, i'm not interested in sharing closing time with anyone."?

The Yanks have too much money.

Start a salary cap, then see what happens.

Are there any Royals fans out there?

It's not so much who they sign but how much money they spend to get a superstar on their team. The sport becomes unbalanced because the team with the most money can spend the big bucks to net the best players leaving other teams at a disadvantage.

What baseball player has the record for being ejected?

New York has had the highest payroll in baseball for years and that is the only reason they win championships. They buy them. If baseball had a salary cap, NY wouldn't even make the playoffs! Just look in the NFL at the Giants and Jets.sorry. Everyone on that team is old and in their last years of their contacts, so you know nothing about your team.

What versatile athlete’s nickname was inspired by her mighty baseball swing?

Because the Yankees have 3 or 4 players that each make more than the ENTIRE PAYROLL of some teams, like the Devil Rays.

What's the call? Safe, Out, or Return to Third?

everyone says that the yankees have to much money, well they pay the top players the big bucks and then charge more for ticket prices but people still pay to go see them. yankees even have to pay into a fund that gives the lower teams money. but then you have teams like the florida marlins that would rather keep the money then spend it on players. well get the good players and the fans will come to see them. tell the owners to quit making thier pocket books fatter and help thier teams.

Which player, other than Albert Pujols, has a good shot at winning a Triple Crown in the future?

The problem isn't that they sign these guys, its that when the Yankees go after a guy no one else has the money to compete. I don't think there is another team in baseball that would of signed Clemens for 28M. When Abreu was made available last year everyone knew where he would end up. The Yankees didn't really have a use for him long term, but they went out and got him anyway. That alienated Sheff who they tried to move to first...they showed no loyalty to go who had been a good player to them over the last few years. They saw someone better and he got screwed. If another team had done that I would of said the same thing about them. Sheff isn't the nicest guy in baseball, but he didn't deserve to get treated that way. If this was a one time thing it wouldn't be a big deal, but it isn't. A-Rod came over even though they had a SS already so they moved him to third. They do things that other teams couldn't even dream about because of all their money. Other teams do it too for sure, but the Yankees are the worst. It may sound like a bitter fan of a small market team here, but you know what thats ok, because I am. When the big name free agents keep going to the same 4 or 5 teams its frustrating for the rest of us. Thats why guys like Gil Meche end up with 55M when they don't deserve it. Small market teams have to pay top dollar for second tier guys because the Sox and Yankees set the market so high.

RED SOX vs. YANKEES?

Plain and simple... The New York Yankees are the biggest team in the biggest city in the world. Everything they do is analyzed under a microscope. Plus you take into account there is probably twice as much media coverage in the NY tri-state area then there is anywhere else and there you have it. Every move is over analyzed by the media and non-issues are turned into these week long drama's that drag out forever just so they have something to put on the front page of the sports section every day. You could also factor in the amount of championships we have as a franchise and the expectation for us to make it to the world series every year also plays into this as well.

Personally I see nothing wrong with this signing, we traded The Unit and set that money aside for Roger. I believe that was about 16-17 million. So to make up the difference I'm sure George could find that type of money in his seat coushins honestly. It's ok for the Red Sox to go out and get Dice-K for over 100 million but its not ok for the Yanks to get some much needed help for a quarter of that. Yes it's pricey but I don't think one Yankee fan is opposed to this deal. As long as he is on the mound in uniform ready to pitch every 5th day (which he will be) I have no problem what so ever with what he choses to do with his time off. Welcome back Roger and long live the NY Yankees.

If the yankees fall to 10 behind is Clemens going to be any kind of real help to them?

Warchant's answer is entertaining, hate New York a bit? If there was a salary cap in baseball, the Yankees would miss the playoffs like the Giants and Jets? Both of them were in the playoffs.

Anyway, the Yankees are evil because they make big money moves that payoff. They've been a strong contender for the championship every season for the past 10+ years. When one team dominates too often, they're bound to be hated. The Mets have made big money moves in the past(Bobby Bo, Roberto Alomar, Mo Vaughn, etc.) that completely failed. Very annoying for me as a Mets fan. But, had those moves turned into the Mets dominating the N.L, we would be hated too. If this current Mets team had not screwed up the NLCS last year and took the championship that was waiting for them, more would hate them now also. It's entertaining to the small market fans when the big market teams spend tons of money, as long as they fail. If they win the championships more often than other teams, then they're hated. It's all about the ring.

Other teams like Boston & the Cubs spend large amounts of money as well, but fail so often that they become a lovable team rather than hated.

What is your favorite funniest moment in baseball history?

Jealousy

Who are the biggest rivals in baseball right now?

Facts don't lie...with A-Rod, Giambi, Jeter, Clemens and Pettitte you now have 5 of the top 8 highest paid players in the game (including the Top 3 in Rodriguez, Giambi and Jeter). How many of those guys started in your farm system?

Two.

Your payroll, with the addition of Clemens, is back up to around $210 million. A-Rod, Clemens, Jeter, Giambi will make over $91 million this season. 20 of the 30 teams in MLB had a smaller payroll on opening day than that.
