What is a Screw Ball?

Question:The mechanics and movement?

Answers:

Has there ever been a doubleheader in baseball between 3 teams?

A pitch that breaks backwards. Basically, from the pitcher's perspective, any side to side break moves from the pitcher's throwing side to his off-side (right to left from pitcher's perspective for a righty pitcher, and vice versa). By twisting the wrist and pronating it opposite of that done on a curveball (screw ball a righty pronates towards third, curve is towards first), you basically through a reverse curve. This is called a screw ball. It's a very unnatural motion, thus a fairly rare pitch. If you find pitctures of the old time screw ballers, you'll notice that they did it so much that their arms are actually twisted a bit unnaturally (I saw a great pic once of 4 old screwballers, kinda weird looking), because of the unnatural motion.

a screw ball is: Right handed pitchers: it is kinda like a left handed pitchers breaking ball. Ball breaks into a right handed batter. To try a screw ball you need great control. To throw, keep index and birdie finger together, place on the left most outer part of ball, let the ball roll out of hand using lots of pressure with birdie finger, you will have opposite spin than a breaking ball.

Baseball hand signals?

A screw ball is thrown the opposite of a curve ball. similar or same hand grip but twist your wrist the opposite way when you throw so you're looking at the top side of your hand. a screw ball will sink and when right handers throw it to right handed batters it will come in on them.

Who is the best pitcher in the MLB.?

A Screw ball is essentially a reverse curve ball...where a right-handed curve would break away from a right-hand batter, a right hand screwball will break into a right-hand batter.

As far as mechanics, instead of the throwing hand going around/over the ball to create its spin...you have bring your hand inside/over the ball to create this spin..this causes a very unnatural follow-through and potentially damaging to the arm (exponentially more risky than a curve, which is already risky).

Very tough to master...and keep healthy enough to throw.

Hope this helps.
