If you grip the ball differently, as some people say the only difference is, you are throwing a different pitch. A circle change is gripped by making an ok sign with your hand and holding the ball along the seams with your middle and ring fingers. The pinky is held to the right side of the ball. The circle change has the same rotation as a two seam fastball, only comes much slower. The circle change tends to move towards the inside and down to a right handed hitter from a right handed pitcher. The straight change is more like a four seam fastball, meaning it has little or no movement. The most effective thing about a changeup is its similarity to a fastball, as any experienced baseball player knows. It spins the same only comes in 15 to 20 miles an hour slower, depending on the pitchers skill.

a change up is a change up. There are different kinds of change ups depending on how you hold the ball. For instance there is a circle change, curve ball, knuckle ball, and slider that could all be considered "off speed" or change ups. It really depends on how you hold the ball. My opinion is there is no straight change except for possibly a palm ball which still has the same rotation and delivery as a fast ball but comes in obviously slower.
