Race in Baseball?
Question:Why has there recently been such an outcry to have more african-americans in baseball? I realize that only about 8% of current players are african-american, but shouldn't we also look at the percentage of the players that are "minorities", i.e. japanese, dominican, cuban etc. I'm sure that percentage is rather high. I think that baseball has done a great job at recruiting and signing the best players of all ethnic groups. I just don't know why there is such a problem with the number of african-americans in baseball.
If thats the case why don't we demand more whites in the NBA, more Asians in the NHL or more Latinos in the NFL?
I want to say that I am all for as many players of any race to be in baseball, I think the best players from around the world should play. I just don't think we need to concentrate on just one race. What do you think? p.s. If I have offended anyone in any way I'm am sorry.

Like I've said so many times, you cant force people to play anything. Since the start of the 70s, black kids have gravitated to basketball and football at a much greater rate than baseball. There are less open areas for kids to play in, support systems once available for urban minority kids to cultivate a love for baseball have disintegrated, and at one point-and I hope its still not true-black kids sometimes were even ridiculed for playing a sport that was deemed to be only for whites and Hispanics. I hope that's no longer true. The RBI(Reviving Baseball in the Inner-cities) initiative, and others like it, may reverse this trend some. How much is hard to say. I think so much of trying to attract anyone to anything is marketing. Baseball should try promoting the Devil Rays, a team with some of the most talented young black players in baseball. Promote exciting players like Jimmy Rollins, BJ Upton, Prince Fielder, etc. If you want to attract a certain audience, then promote your product in such a way as to appeal to them. Simple enough; but then, the chips are gonna fall where they're gonna fall. You cant guarantee results.because people love African-Americans
Who is the best team in baseball at the moment?
I dont really worry about that stuff. The MLB's teams job is to get the best players, it doesnt mattter if they are black, white, Asian, Latino, or any other race.Where can I find messageboards for Michigan State Baseball?
no one is demanding there be more black players in the MLB, all that is being said is there are far fewer now than ever before. why is that? who knows? baseball fields in neighborhoods are a thing of the past. little league cost hundred or thousands of dollars to play a season and there is not as much glamor in baseball than in basketball or football.basketball can be played anywhere with a hoop, which are far more common in inner cities or regions with high african american populations. a basketball can be purchased for 20 bucks. a cheap wood ball bat cost atleast 50 bucks. each baseball costs 5 bucks and they don't last long.
