Would Ken Griffey Jr. in his prime be considered one of the top 10 players of all time?
Question:If you had a to list the top 10 position players in MLB history, would Ken Griffey be included? He was a consecutive multi-Gold Glove winner and will hit 600 HRs w/o the use of steroids.
Answers:
It's so ridiculous now the way players are viewed. Jeff Kent won an MVP and he can't catch cold. Players should be judged on numerous things. To get the truth about how good a player is, take these numbers:
RBI + Runs scored + Runs saved (defense) - Runners left on base - runs cost (defense + baserunning) + runs forced (baserunning).
If you take the top guys from those numbers you will see the best all around players today are:
Andruw Jones
Derrek Lee
Alex Rodriguez
Ivan Rodriguez
All time would be:
Willie Mays
Mickey Mantle
Ty Cobb
Using those stats, one style wonders will be way down - guys like Pujols and Aramis Ramirez.
If you get 150 RBI's and cost your team 95 runs on defense, that's like only getting 55 RBI's. You shouldn't pull in millions for 55 RBI's.
Why do the starting pitchers get taken out so early these days?
yea he was on streak to break hanks record too but injurys got to him which is sad because hes an awesome playerTell me what you think about my baseball stats! (CAREER WISE )?
I think yes. If Griffey would not have been hurt so much, I honestly think he would be the all time career home run leader, at least until A-Rod passed him. Griffey had the gold gloves, the power, the steals. The man could do it all. I never liked him in Seattle, but there is no doubt that he was the best. Had he stayed healthy I don't think you even have to limit the list to position players, I think Griffey could have gone down as one of the top 5 players ever period. Regardless of position.Who's more important to the Yankees, A-Rod or Roger Clemens?
Absolutely. Only Willie Mays was a better all-around player. It's easy to forgot how good Junior was during all those years that he played for the Mariners. Is $17.50 a good price for a seat in the lower box of a MLB game?
One of the best of his generation, but not necessarily of all time.To be one of the best of all time, the whole of someone's career must be examined. Griffey certainly had the potential, at that time, to be among the top 25, but top 10...?
Then again, one of the best of your generation is nothing to sneeze at, and if a player can keep that up for at least 10 years, and stay clean, he's almost certainly HOF-bound.
Is Barry Bonds the bad guy simply because he shunned the media?
Of all time?!?! he's not on steroids, but what are you on??I can't say top 10, but definitely top 50 probably top 25.
Did anyone witness the Cubs meltdown today?
Of course. You have to judge a player on his career stats... and with all the player hating that Grif gets with the old he is always hurt crap... look at the numbers... he is now in the top ten in homers, and has a lot of runs batted in as well... not to mention countless gold gloves, all star appearences, and all with no steroids... the kid was already listed on the master card all century team a few years ago...
No, to their is alot of better peolple
Retired numbers besides 42 in mlb all teams??
He was on pace to be in possibly the top 20.Position players? Let me think...
Ruth, Aaron, Clemente, Cobb, Mays, Wagner. I think those are all givens to be ahead of Griffey Jr. Gehrig is ahead, as is Ted Williams. I'd personally say Hornsby is better, so that makes 9. At this point, without trying to pick my brain, I'd say there are a handful of guys I'd rate at least as good as the Kid, being Mike Schmidt, Mantle, Speaker, Hornsby, Paul Waner, Stan Musial, and Johnny Bench. And all of that is just guys off the top of my head. If you are going just his prime, then I'd rate Joe Jackson ahead too.
I DO however think that had he not been injured, the Kid would be the current HR champ, not bobble-head roid boy.
Dodger games, how much is "all you can eat"??
You need to rethink that question. Griffy has not tested positive for steroids since MLB made it a mandetory program. One of the major side affects of steroids is that it increases the liklihood of injury in an otherwise healthy person. So you can not say that he did it without the use of steroids anymore than you can say Barry Bonds has done what he has done without steroids. The fact of the matter is that Griffy Jr. was once a domanant player but he is no longer a productive player. He will get into the hall of fame more than likely but he can not be concidered one of the ten best ever. He wasnt dominate for very long and he isnt likely to be productive ever again.Who has hit the most career home runs in major league baseball WITHOUT hitting a grand slam?
i don't think top 10, but probably top 15 or 20...if he had not had the injury problems he's had over the course of his career, he would be one of the 5 best players ever without question, but he's been hurt so often that he probably won't have the numbers he could easily have hadGreat yes, Top 10 Not even close
Will A-Rod Break the All-Time HR Record (Injury Free)?
Well it's really hard to say. I don't think top 10, but definetly 20. There have been soooo many great players, from the Babe to Gehrig to DiMaggio to Johan Santana. I'm not saying Griffey isn't that good, because he's absolutely amazing, but top 10? I'd say Top 20 for sure.GO GRIFFEY!
Do you think A-rod will continue doing great this year?
Top Ten Of All Time:Babe Ruth
Lou Gehrig
Ted Williams
Willie Mays
Mickey Mantle
Hank Aaron
Roberto Clemente
Mike Schmidt
Stan Musial
Ken Griffey Jr.
How bad are these Yankees playing right now, compared to other Yankee teams over the years?
Yes, but after leaving Seattle it's been rough for him to say the least.No. Sure he had days or weeks or even months that might rank with the best. But he simply missed too much time due to injuries. Maybe a better way to look at it would be to name your roster of all time greats as though you were going to actually play a game. Or better yet, a season of games. I would be concerned that his propensity to injury would leave my team at a disadvantage.
Could this team go all the way?
Yes, although the all-time list is pretty crowded in the outfield. He'd have to rank above Mays, Mantle and Cobb to be the starting all-tme center-fielder. Hard call to make, but he deserves to be in the conversation.BTW, how do you know he didn't use steroids? Because he has a nice smile?
