25-June-1876 was a Sunday, so no games were played. But the Cubs (okay, really the Chicago National League team, then known as the White Stockings -- yes, same team now known as the Cubs) defeated the New York Mutuals, 16-2, at home on Saturday 24-June, and then lost to the Philadelphia Athletics (not the later AL team) on Tuesday 27-June, 14-13, again at home.Home that season was a place called 23rd Street Park.
Both the Mutuals and the Athletics folded at the end of the season, and the NL was reduced from eight teams ('76) to six (1877).

They did not play a game on that date. On June 24, 1876 they played the New York Mutuals and won 16-2. On June 27, 1876 they lost to the Philadelphia Athletics 14-13.Sorry. Custer was on his own that date.

Custer died on the 25th of June 1876, a Sunday. There was no Sunday ball in the National League in 1876.Chicago beat New York 16-2 on the June 24, and were in 1st place at the time (they won the pennant that year).
BTW, they weren't known as the "Cubs" until the late 1890s. They were known in 1876 as the White Stockings.
Who was the first switch hitter to hit a hundred in baseball?
Due to the Blue Laws there was no games played on a Sunday . The The Cubs lost on the previous Saturday to the NY Mutuals 14-2. Their next game was not until Tuesday June 27th against Philadelphia. Check a major baseball encyclopedia under the history of the game or a web site which possesses a schedule for that year or check up on old time newspapers of the Chicago Tribune .More Questions & Answers...
