Pitcher/Umpire Confrontations?
Question:There was a pitcher several years back who got a ball from the umpire he didn't like because he said it felt like a "grapefruit." He threw it back to the umpire and the umpire got mad and chucked another ball back over toward second base. The pitcher was ticked and just stood there. Does anyone have any idea who this pitcher was?

Al "The Mad Hungarian" Hrobsky. Hrobsky was pitching for Atlanta, the plate umpire was Bob Engel, and I believe the game was against the Dodgers.Do the Red Sox have the pitching to go all the way?
I don't remember that one.The classic pitcher/umpire confrontation, though, came in the last game of the '90 ALCS. Roger Clemens took exception to the calls from plate umpire Terry Cooney, and began a screaming match with Cooney, without every leaving the mound. At one point, if you could read lips, he seemed to be inviting Cooney to meet him after the game in the parking lot for, well, you get the idea.
Conney ejected Clemens at that point, and Clemens first refused to leave the mound, and then refused to leave the dugout. Doing both is in the rulebook, and the game couldn't continue until he had been escorted to the clubhouse. By the police.
Yeah, and most people thought Clemens/Piazza was bad.
