It's not that they're buying championships, it is that they are "trying" to do so, as since those titles they have spent out the wazoo to acquire the A-Rods, Johnny Damons, and anybody else that's a sexy pickup out there.And it hasn't done them a damn bit of good. and that makes me very happy.

Over the MANY years and MANY championships they have had the money to spend. They are alot older then Pettite, and Posada. They have done this since th 1890's.Because they do. Duh. Actually, I think they TRY to buy championships. I think there is a lesson that money isn't everything. They have the pieces but they don't have the heart. If a general manager such as Billy Beane of the A's was in charge and had their budget they would almost certainly win a championship in my opinion.Hate to say it, but the people who say that are not Yankee fans, so they need to make something up. Well, I think the entire thing comes from having the highest payroll for any MLB team. And when another team wins the World Series, they will go after the free agents on the team before the start of the next season.
It isn't saying that they paid someone to win the rings. It is speaking to having such a high payroll, and throwing money at the "talent" as they see it.

i think it has to do with the absurdly high payroll the yanks have in comparison to other teams. they may have cultivated that talent you mentioned but it is costing them plenty to keep that talent from going elsewhere. other teams just don't have the dough to compete with that.Yes you are absolutely correct. All the talent they have is from the farm agents. Like Jorge Posada. He is one of their best players and he is coming from the farm agents. He has helped the Yankees to all four of their recent championships. And also Derek Jeter. He wasn't a top notch player like Alex Rodriguez. He was taken in to the Yankees and now look at Mr. Clutch. Bernie Williams, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte are all top-notch players and the Yankees picked them all up.
A Rod was not aquired by throwing money at him, they traded for him, and insisted Texas take up some of his salary, so they aren't exactly free with their money.
Yankees are not spending truckloads to strengthen their squad anymore. They now realise exactly what you pointed out, the titles were won with homegrown talent. And they remember losing the world series to the Marlins, a team built on young pitchers. That is why we have seen a policy shift. They have traded for young starting pitching, I expect they might draft some pitchers as well. They have held on to players like Hughes and Tabata, instead of using them as bait to trade for a veteran.
Yankees are no longer talking about this season or the next only, instead they have one eye on the seasons to come. There could well be another dynasty in the works as a result.

The accusations have died down a bit, considering they haven't won since 2000 (and haven't even been to the World Series since losing to Florida in 2003), but the accusations were rooted in Darth, I mean George, Steinbrenner's deep pockets.If he successfully buys a World Series championship in my lifetime, I won't hate him for it. I'd do the same thing in his situation. With deep pockets comes the responsibility of doing all that is possible to field the best possible team.

They don't interest me. If people hate the Yankees as much as they say they do, they would stop talking about them. It's what has happened the last six years when they have not won a championship where they have gotten that reputation. I mean when your payroll is 200 million dollars and no one else is even near 150 million, you realize that when any great player may go free agent, the Yankees will pay them either to have the guy play or to keep him off the Red Sox or Mets.The Tigers series last year was a classic example of that strategy biting them in the behind. Torre had to play Matusi, Abreu, and Sheffield- they all played out of position, none of them had a big hit, and Detroit destroyed them.
