How can i tell if my 1968 willie mays baseball card is fake? (#50)?

The first year on the AL featured the Chicago White Sox, Boston Americans, Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Blues, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Senators, Philadelphia A's, and Detroit Tigers.

The Orioles would move to New York and become the Yankees, while the others are still around in one form or another.

The original NL teams (1876) were the Chicago White Stockings (who became the Cubs), Hartford Dark Blues (gone), St. Louis Brown Stockings (gone), Boston Red Caps (now the Atlanta Braves), Louisville Grays (gone), NY Mutuals (gone), Philadelphia A's (gone, not the same A's as today), and the Cincinnati Reds, who are not the same as today's Reds franchise, which started as an American Association team in 1882.

A friend of mine said the MLB has four african-american starting pitchers. Who are they?

I don't know who the first teams were, but of the current teams in major league baseball, the Cincinatti Reds are the oldest team in the majors.

Are any members of the Twins going to get an award on Saturday?

The New York Knickerbockers were the first "organized" team that played by rules that bear similarity to current rules, but they were not part of a league, nor were they professional.

The Cincinnati Red Stockings were the first professional team in that every member of the team was paid for playing. This was in 1869. Players had been paid before that, but not EVERY player.

The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was founded in 1870, with the Red Stockings charter members. The Cincinnati Red Stockings voted to disband after the 1870 season, but the core players stayed together and took their name to Boston. This league survived until 1875, when it was supplanted by the National League. The Red Stockings switched leagues. By 1912, the Red Stockings were known as the Braves. The Boston Braves moved to Milwaukee in 1953, and on to Atlanta after the 1965 season.

The next-oldest team is the Chicago Cubs, founded in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings. However, the Great Fire of 1871 shut them down until 1874, and in 1876 they too moved to the NL.

In 1882 the American Association was founded as a rival league, and the following teams were created (among others): St.Louis Browns (Cardinals); Pittsburgh Alleghenys (Pirates), Cincinnati Red Stockings (Reds), and Brooklyn Bridegrooms (LA Dodgers).

The New York Giants (now San Francisco) and Philadephia Phillies both began play in 1883.

The oldest existing AL teams are the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox (started as Sioux City Cornhuskers), Baltimore Orioles (started as Milwaukee Brewers), Minnesota Twins (Kansas City Blues), Cleveland Indians (Grand Rapids Rustlers), all founded in 1894 in the Western League (the direct ancestor of the AL).

Indians wager?

Most everyone has listed the correct answers already. If you want to do some more research there are a couple of interesting sites to check out:

Edit: the 1901 Milwaukee Brewers actually became the AL St Louis Browns which became the current Baltimore Orioles franchise. Which is confusing since the NY Yankees actually started life as the original AL Baltimore Orioles, and that the current LA Dodgers franchise when in Brooklyn were basically merged with the NL Baltimore Orioles franchise.
