That's going to be pretty hard to do when they're predicted to win only 78-80 games. You have to assume that they will win the division first. They may have a commanding lead now, but there's still plenty of baseball left. I do think though that they are a better team than the Yankees though as long as they stay healthy.Rate each pitcher and each position player from 1-100? overall?
I would predict that the Red Sox will win the AL East by 7-8 games this year but that's only if the Yankees can get their act together. The Yankees are 8 1/2 games out today but I expect that they will hit better this season and get some better pitching which will keep them within "shouting distance" of the Sox all season. If they don't get things together, well then, the Sox could bury them by June.I will say 12 games.

As a Red Sox fan, this kind of question scares me. There is way too much baseball ahead of us to count anyone out. I hope the Red Sox win the AL East, the AL Pennant and the World Series. I fantasize about being at a playoff game, but I am trying to be humble. Too much can happen and no one wants to sound like a Yankee fan.

4 1/2.The Yankees are tough even with crappy pitching. It will come down to their head to head games to see what will happen, but I think the sox will win 3 out of every 4 this year based on their great pitching staff.
Other than that, the Yanks and Sox should be pretty even in wins against mediocre teams.

I been getting an earful from Yankee fans who seem completely stunned at my prediction but i been saying since spring training that with the yankees pitching being what it is they will lose by about 15 games.They keep saying its the same old thing Yanks fall behind and will come back as they always do.Not this time.This is not the rotation with Clemens,Pettitte,Mussina,Wells... Hernandez who could all once go 7 or 8 innings with an occasional nine from a couple of them.This is now a mostly 6 inning starter staff who will tax the bullpen into submission.I don't care what kind of bats a team has,you cannot win a division when your starters go 6 innings 95% of the season which is what this staff will do if changes aren't made.
Sure they can spend some money sign some inning eating pitchers and make a run at it.All I am saying is if the team were to stay as it is they can't comeback,they need some big pitching aquisitions and they need them by midseason if they want a real chance at winning the division or even a wild card spot.If they don't,they will certainly lose not by 2 or 3 games but by double digits.I know Yankees fans you are laughing saying its so early he's stupid he has no clue.But if they don't make changes watch the final totals at season's end and remember I told you so.I am not hating on your team I am just a realist and the pitching situation is really bad.If the rotations were reversed I'd say Yanks win the division by about 25 games cause the sox wouldn't have the pitching or the bats to compete.So its not hating or saying Yankees will lose for the hell of it its just based on the reality of the situation as it is right now.Yanks have an edge in batting potential,but the pitching difference is so far in the red sox favor that it overcomes the lesser named bats and then some.
