I am a baseball umpire for a city league but just out of curiosity is a runner out if he is tagged accidently?

An at-bat. It's a fielder's choice because another runner was put out while you reached base. You get nothing for being substituted for another runner, and that's essentially what happens. Your batting, on-base and slugging percentages all go down, but it's not the same as an out because you can still come around to score.

Here's an interesting scoring fact about a fielder's choice. If you are facing a pitcher different from the one responsible for the runner ahead of you, and that runner is put out but you're not (that's the definition of a fielder's choice), then you have replaced the previous runner as the responsibility of the previous pitcher. So, if you come around to score, the run that you scor is charged to pitcher A and not to pitcher B. In his first shot at his 300th career win, Don Sutton ended up with a no decision because of that that very situation.

It counts as an out. If it were a sacrifice it'd be different. A sacrifice means that you got thrown out at first, but the runners still advanced.

Example of Fielder's Choice: If there are men on first and second, and you hit it to third and the third baseman tags third.

When can players slide to 1st base?

it is an out. unlike what these clowns said if you are 1-2 and hit into a fielders choice you are now 1-3. If someone scores when you hit into a fielders choice you may or may not be awarded an rbi(it is at the descretion of the official scorer) Such as First and third with one out and you hit ground ball to short and they try to roll two but you beat it out at first you will more than likely be 0-1 with an rbi. But say in same situation shortstop threw home and the catcher dropped the ball but guy would have been out if hadnt been for drop now you are 0-1 with no rbi even though you are on base and the run scored.

For purposes of averages (batting, slugging, OBP), it counts as an out. The reasoning is that the fielder could have gotten you out but chose instead to throw out another runner on your team.
