How much should the long ball/steriod era be taken into factor when inducting hall of famers?

Question:Well i've been chatting on the hall of fame issue and I'd like to know person to person who thinks the steriod hunch will blow over? Do you think it SHOULD? opinions either way.

gary sheffield's numbers are well above many old timers in the hall of fame. yet every one i talk to says he's a no go. mcgwire, gonzalez and bagwell in the more distant future.

where do you draw the line!? how can you suspect that one man has cheated and another hasn't? so that makes it not fair to judge any of them as cheaters? if you start saying well i personally think he might have used riods then well, when you look around the leaugue you'll struggle to find any one that you can say, oh I know for a fact he didn't use. coz you don't know who did or not.

numbers r much higher now. so the standards change? it's going 2 be very difficult to pick. if you don't put sheffield and bonds and gonzalez and mcgwire, you can't put n anyone. new players like pujols and berkman? when the time comes?

How to increase arm strength?

I really don't think it should be taken into consideration unless it is proven beyond a doubt, i.e. convictions, and or plea bargains outlining the evidence. Please don't confuse me with a B.Bonds fan, I do not like him, and I don't want to see him break the record or enter the hall. The era we are in now, will always have the stigma of steroids attached to it, as well as anyone inducted into the hall of fame, but I don't think someone should be graded on their achievments based on rumor and speculation. If they are now or in the future convicted of breaking the civil laws by using or possesing illegal steroids, keep them out of the hall, or take them out.

Case in point - How many people could call Ty Cobb a good man? Not many, but he was a great player.

Will Jimmy Rollins out homer Ryan Howard this year?!?

It should only be a factor if there is definite proof that person took them. Ones they suspect are already finding out it is not easy to go there. Cheaters out and good guys in.

It's not that big of a deal. Most of the players that took them have no shot of making the hall and those that do have been called out have been and are currently being dealt with.

For Met Fans?

Anyone who used steroids should never be allowed into the hall of fame. If Sheffield reaches 500 home runs, and I'm sure he will, he should go into the hall. If, on the other hand, he is found to have used steroid, no!

It's going to be almost impossible at this point to make that determination. Bud Selig has let this issue drag on for so long without doing anything about it, I'm sure some cheaters, including Barry Bonds will find their way into the hall, and that's a travesty.

Boston Red Sox?

Baseball has a long history of cheaters. Some well known ones are in the Hall of Fame. There was never any reference to the cheating when some of the best and well-liked players were inducted. Two examples are Ty Cobb and Gaylord Perry. Ty Cobb, although he was never high on the popularity list, was known to hone his spikes in the dugout prior to games to increase speed on the basepaths as well as to intimidate opponents. This was not legal in the rules of baseball at the time they were players. Gaylord Perry admitted to doctoring balls in a variety of ways, although not during his playing days, as a away to increase his performance. This was not legal in the rulebooks at the time. Should these players be removed from the HOF? (Personally I think they both should be in the HOF). "Performance enhanchment" is a general term used in sports. Should there be an asterisk in the record books when Bonds breaks Aaron's record? The main reason I think Bonds gets his record and first ballot induction is that at the time that he is accused of using anabolic steroids were legal. Many of the others who are being chastized and penalized (ex-McGwire) for being involved are being critized by hypocritical individuals who seem to be these quazi-authorities on morality.
