Are pitch counts a good thing?
Question:I heard former KC Royals pitcher tell some of the current roster he had the most complete games in club history (22 in one season, I think). They were amazed. It seems piching was better accross the league in those days. Has specialized pitchers and limiting pitch counts hurt the game?

yes it is a good thing because if someone throws too many pitches they could damage their arm. Will the Yankees or Devil Rays take last place in the east this year?
Watching the pitch count is wise. Limiting a pitcher's use helps extend his arm and his season.Other than in the American League in MLB where else is the DH used?
I dont think so... after all, the idea is to protect the investment made in these guys. Look at it this way, there are a ton of still VERY effective pitchers aged 35+ in the majors today (led by a 44 year old Jamie Moyer) whereas there were very few effective pitchers in this age group in years past (and almost none were starters)With the changes in pitching today (the arm action andmovement of the offspeed pitches of today was unheard of in the old days where pitchers would regularily pitch CGs in the 30's/40's) it makes sence to protect the pitcher from injury now to prolong his career for a few more years.

No, I pitcher could feel great, but managers seem to think even if they're throwing a no-hitter because they reach the magic number "100" in the pitch count, they have to be taken out, if the pitcher feels good and is pitching good, hell, leavem inWhat is meant by the term the "skinny" on a player?
The limitation of pitch counts is based on the philosophy that the 101-125 pitch a pitcher makes are much less effective than the first 100 pitches. I know the Mets use this strategy consistently, and it puts a large burden on the bullpen. The use of specialized pitchers, while annoying for the delays caused by pitching changes, adds a strategic element to the game.Tim Lincecum going to be called up?!?!?!??!?
It hurts the game only in the fact that a lot of young pitchers are not conditioned to handle pressure and work out of their own jams. Pitch counts are supposed to protect arms, but we see more pitchers break down today than when guys used to routinely pitch on 3-days rest and go 200-plus innings every year.In baseball why do you go right to 1st instead of left to 1st?
yea, pitch counts have hurt the gamea pitcher knows how they are doing, if they are "in the zone" or anything of that sort
and most people can tell by the way they are pitching
from my experience, pitch counts are used more for a recommendation because based on precedent, you can tell how many pitches a pitcher lasts before they start to fatigue and their pitching loses its dominance.
for many major league pitchers (starting pitchers), this number is about 100 or 110.
it all depends on the pitcher
it is not so much that pitchers are limited to pitch counts, its that they have proven before that they cannot last much longer after that pitch count.
it certainly has hurt the game, but it doesnt not stop pitchers from moving on, they do that themselves based on their previous outings.
How can you find out when a particular MLB game will play in ESPNHD?
they are because a some pitchers can only do so much without hurting their armThere is no one stat that has hurt or helped the game. But the way that such numbers are or can be used is an entirely different thing.

I think they make too much of it. All it does is reduce the playing time of a pitcher and limits his career. Let them pitch for Pete sakes. Unless they're hurt going the distance once in a while isn't a bad thing.Who did the Cleveland Indians get when they traded Brandon Phillips to the reds?
