Has money, greed, and steroid scandal ruined the game of baseball?
Ted Williams. To have the legacy he has when he missed 4 years in his prime is amazing. To think of what his numbers would have been like. He had such an ability at the plate. He could tell what pitch was coming at him in part because he could see the rotation of the seems. That is the eye of an absolute natural. What is the best undershirt to wear underneath your baseball uniform?
As good a five-tool player as Clemente was, he can't even approach Williams in overall greatness. Their lines say it all:Clemente .317/.359/.475
Williams .344/.482/.634
All the great defense and speed in the world can't make up for the difference. Williams is as good a pure hitter as we've ever seen, even with having missed four prime years due to war. Clemente was a good contact hitter, but never hit 30 homers in a season and took three years to draw as many walks as Williams did in a single season.
Clemente was a great player, but Williams is among a handful of all-time best players. Anybody in their right mind would rather have Williams.
Will A-rod finaly have a good post season in 2007?
The stats bear it out. Ted was the best.Ted Williams is the one of the top three hitters of all time...Clemente is not...interesting two you picked but any baseball historian will say Williams and it's not even close.

Ted Williams was a better hitter, Roberto Clemente was a better all around. If you ask most old heads though they will tell you Willie Mays was the best every all around. How much does it cost to go to a japanese baseball game?
The "Splendid Splinter" of course, the purest hitter of all time. Clemente was great but his career was cut short. Can i watch yes network online?
Clemente was great, but had almost 2x as many strikeouts as Williams.I am going to Boston in July to see the Red Sox and wondering where to park?
I would pick Ted Williams. He was the last player to hit .400 and his career batting AVG. of .344.Roberto Clemente was a great player though. He earned 12 Gold gloves and he was a 5 tool player.
Roger Clemens... What will his record be at the end of the season?
I actually saw both players play the game several different times in years gone bye. If you look just at the numbers you would have to go with Williams who could possibly be the best offensive player ever to swing a bat. Clemente was a better athlete and was just unbelievable at everything he did. He had the strongest and most accurate throwing arm of anybody I have ever seen, and I have seen most everyone since the 1960's. I was at Dodger stadium for a game in the 1960's and saw him throw out Wes Parker trying to go from first base to third base from the right field corner. The throw was never more than six feet off the ground and got to third base on the fly. I challenge anyone, who has ever seen Clemente play, to tell me they have seen a better player, even Willie Mays.THEY were both very good but, i'd have to go w/ Teddy cuz he's my home boy!
How much does the Stanley Cup weigh? (in pounds)?
Good question. Basically one-dimensional versus all-around player. The answer lies in your preference. For you folks hwo like to judge by "rings,' it would be Clemente. My answer is slow in coming. I believe Theodore Ballgame is the greatest hitter of all time. Bobby is perhaps the best right fielder of all time, and no slouch at the plate.
I have to go with Williams. Thanks for making me have to ponder it a bit.
