Left handed third basemen?
Question:This is a genuine question, not a trivia question. Although it would be a good trivia quesiton. Have there been any significant left handed third basemen in the majors. By significant I mean ones who started a fair amount of games in that postion, not someone who was placed there for a game. If so can you tell what year(s) they played.

Can anyone tell me all they know about the Brewers shortstop J.J. Hardy?
There have been several players that throw left handed to play 3rd base (45 to be exact), although only 4 of them ever played more than 50 games at that position.Hick Carpenter played an incredible 1059 games at third base while throwing left handed. You have probably never heard of him because he played 3rd base from 1879 - 1892. Granted he only played one game at 3rd after 1889.
Next on the list is Lefty Marr and he only played 129 games at the position.
Good question, I think that would stump just about any hardcore baseball fan.
Why the Boston Redsox suck right now...?
There are no lefty fielding thirdbase men that I know of. There are those who field righthanded and bat left handed like Eric Chavez and Hank Blalock, to name a couple.Eddie Mathews, George Brett, Wade Boggs and Frank Baker who played from 1908-1914 for the phila A's
and the NYY from 1916-1922
i am sure there are more but these are just some that came up
When was the last year the yankees didnt make the playoffs?
Dave - those guys bat left, but throw right. I remember a guy named Mike Squires who played for the White Sox back in the '80s played third at a game against the A's, but I don't think is was often. Additionally he also played catcher occasionally. A real utility player!More Questions & Answers...
