Jose Reyes best shortstop in new york (right now)?
Question:for like the past month i have heard that jose is the most exciting and best shortstop in new york, although i am a huge mets fan i was just wondering if people thought this was true

He is the Most exciting, i agree, he may be the most exciting single player in Baseball. But Better than Jeter? No...i dont think you can say that Yet. Jeter would have to Decline sum and Reyes continue to advance, for me to think Reyes is the better player right now. Ive seen Jeter do too many amazing things with the money on the line. I think Jeter is much older, so he doesnt have a more than 3 or 4 years at the elite level, but reyes isnt better...yet.Doesn't ROGER CLEMENS look good in a Yankee cap AGAIN?

I'd say so. That dude is explosive. I wish I had him on my fantasy team.He's the most exciting in baseball as far as I'm concerned. Jeter is great, but Reyes is faster, makes more things happen on the basepath. He already has 3 triples a homer and three stolen bases this year.

Jose who? (i know, that's a little harsh) Check back in when Mr. Reyes has been doing this for 10 years. I'm not going to disregard his abilities. He is a great player with great upside, but at this point to name him as the best shortstop is a bit premature. Jeter's been doing it since 1996. He's seen it all, done it all, and with some great competition at his position(A-Rod at the time, Vizquel, Tejada). Jeter is (and I know it's inflated because of the number of games) the all-time postseason hits leader. He's a great player, a great leader, and he's still in his prime. Jeter has thrived on the biggest stage of all for a decade. If Reyes can do the same, then the comparisons can begin. Until then, Jeter is still king.Are these red sox seats @ Fenway any good?

Jeter is a more disciplined player, awesome in the clutch, and the best baserunner (which is not all about speed and should not be discounted) in baseball who has proved it consistently over the last 10 years.Reyes, on the other hand, is the most exciting player in the game. He can do things that Jeter cannot but will also make mistakes that Jeter will not make.
Having said this, you're asking who is better right now. That's Reyes. I'm a huge Mets fan, by the way, so I answer with trepidation- Reyes has enormous potential, but so did Gooden and Strawberry.
I suppose, judging by the different answers, depends on what you are asking.
If you are asking who is better for the career, of course Jeter is better than Reyes (but still not the best SS, still give that to Alex Rodriguez, despite now being a 3rd baseman).
But, if you are asking so far this year, or who will be this year, yes, you have to point to Reyes at this point.
He and Jeter will hit the same amount of home runs, Jeter will drive in more because of batting 2nd vs. leadoff, Reyes should score more and steal more.
Reyes was a top 5 pick in fantasy this year and Jeter was typically 2nd or 3rd round.
Fantasy leagues, as opposed to the biased fans of teams is a much better indication of what is going on.

Right now yes. As a die hard Mets fan it pains me to say that Jeter is probably the best shortstop in the history of New York baseball. Jose Reyes defenitely has a chance to be better than Reyes, but its too early in his career to tell.I'll take Jose any day though.
