Have a sense of command...in other words, let them know you look like you know what you're doing and that you are in control. Take your time making the calls and try to be consistent. And always look like like you're hustling out there...be on top of all your plays.dont fix the game
When one of the teams hits a deep shot like a double make sure you watch and see if they touch all the bases because that really ticks coaches off when you don't know

Say, "No" next time you're asked if you aren't comfortable doing it. Or just do a really bad job today and you won't be asked again.Be CONSISTENT in calling the game. That is the most important thing. There is nothing more irritating to a team when they feel they are getting all the bad (or good) calls.

The best advice i can give for plate umpiring is taking your time before calling a ball or a strike. Don't be in a hurry, it's not like basketball where the game is moving so fast that you have to call everything instantaneously. No one is going anywhere without you, so don't rush your calls.I find that if I let the ball smack the mitt for a split second, then make my decision, I rarely make a call I second guess.
Call it the same both ways and be consistent. Nothing worse than a floating strike zone.
Key is relax. Head over slot between catcher and hitter and make sure you can see the plate and watch the pitcher release the ball. watch the ball all the way in, see it caught, then your decision.
Ya got all day, don't rush. It ain't nuthin til ya call it.
