To me its the cut fastball. I'm just out of little league but for all of you out there I have baseball knowledge far beyond my years. To throw this pith the way i throw it you put your middle finger and index finger on the outside of the left seam. On the right side of the seam put your ring finger. Your thumb and pinkey will be put under the ball to stabilize it. Even though when your holding it at first it will feel odd keep at it. When done right if you throw it over the top with no need to flick your wrist which causes damage and tear to your arm it goes maybe 5mph slower then you regular fastball but it has a devastating break at the end away from rightys and into lefties. This also works as a cutter which is the same pitch but slower. To me this pitch resemble a slider.

Why did San Francisco get the All-Star Game in 2007?

The changeup actually. Changing speeds is really hard for young players to pick up and for that matter. Look at Johan Santana, the strikeout king, loves to use his changeup.

For little league, learn to control your pitches.

Do you think Bartolo Colon will pitch like he did in 05?

For little league, I would advise you just to learn how to control your pitches. But if you really need a good pitch that doesn't hurt your arm try the splitter.Your hands might not quite be big enough, but put your first two fingers that are spilt apart on the bottom of the ball. It should have just a little bit of backspin and drop. I won the little league championship with that pitch. Unhittable.

Baseball: 5 tool players?

In little league, strike one is the best pitch. If a pitcher can get ahead of hitters and stay there, it shifts all the pressure to the hitter. A young pitcher needs to remember that even the best hitters at that level will fail six out of ten times, but only throwing strikes gives them a chance to fail.

When I've worked with little leaguers, I've focused on the fastball and the change. The fastball is obvious, and I would suggest that they vary the grip on the seams to make the ball appear different flying in to the hitters. The change is a logical second pitch. The way to teach a kid the change is to have them choke their grip (i.e., hold it as deep in the palm as possible) and drag their back foot (right foot for a righty) on release to deaden the movement of their body toward the plate. Throw this with a regular fastball motion and the combination of the choked grip and less forward momentum of the body will lead to the pitch being slower with the same arm action.

New York Mets, Or New York Yankees?

Here's your best answer.

The best pitch you can throw... is strike one.

Major league hitters bat something like .350 when the count starts at 1-0.

They bat something like .250 when the count starts at 0-1.

That's .100 points difference based on the first pitch of the at bat.

As a little leaguer, you should rely on your fastball exclusively. Don't worry about curveballs or changeups until you're at least 14. And even then, you're only going to throw the curve with a 0-2 or 1-2 count.

What you need to be able to do is control your fastball. Throwing it a lot will build your arm strength too, so you'll throw harder as you get older.

When you can move the fastball in and out, up and down how you want it, and you can throw it for strikes consistantly... you're gonna be the best pitcher in your league. I don't care how hard you throw.

What will help more african american youths play baseball ?

This is the real world, and not hurting your arm is ALWAYS an issue, at every level of the game.

At the little league level, with growth plates still open for just about every play, fastballs, fastballs and nothing but fastballs. Fastballs should be made to move. Fastballs allow you to develop command of your pitches. Fastballs build arm strength, and do so with minimal risk to young arms.

FASTBALLS!!!!!!!...

Who is going to win the Subway series this year, The rollin Mets or the Bombin yanks?

don't start throwing breaking pitches and throw out your arm, that's the stupidest thing you could do. possibly try to get 2-seam and 4-seam fastball combination to mix it up and throw off the hitters a little bit. another important thing is to have good mechanics and not throw out your arm.
i used to be a great pitcher when i was about 9/10 years old and i didn't know good mechanics and threw out my arm when i was about 12 and never fully recovered. it wasn't because i threw breaking pitches, it was just because i didn't know good mechanics and how to pitch.

Who do you consider to be the top 10 pitchers of all time?

Change up. Kids that age cannot adjust to the change in speed and if you start throwing it, you should be pretty successful. I think the best thing you can do in little league, from both coaching, watching and playing, is to change speeds. That is even what the best MLB pitchers do especially the likes of Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine.

I'm lost...how do I get from Taconic Parkway to Yankee Stadium?

If you can master 3 of the different kinds of fastballs, like cutter, 2 seam, four seam, and the Splitter which is a change up that drops you will win the litte league World Series.
