being a first basemen for many years, you talk to the baserunners about all sorts of things. Depending on the game situation, how well you know the guy, and if he is a rookie. With a guy you know well, you will talk about each others families, kids, new car. With a rookie you can make small talk, ask how he feels to be playing at this level, tell short jokes. And depending on the game situation you can try and destract the runner. I have tagged out a guy just asking him to step off the bag so I can clean it off. (you gotta tell the 1st base umpire that you are gonna try it so he will look for it). That is what we talk about.How many games are the Boston Red Sox going to win the A.L. East by?
