What does it mean when they say 4-6-3 on double plays?
Question:not much of a baseball fan but ive always wondered why announcers say 4-6-3 double play
Answers:
Why aren't the red sox playing the mets this year?
the positions are numebered 1-92nd is 4
shortstop is 6
1st base is 3
the numbers are the positions of the infielders ...like 4 is either the short stop or third baseman
How do you think the Brewers season will do this year? the same? or better?
When scoring what happens on the field, each position has a number.A 4-6-3 double play means the ball was hit to the second baseman who tossed it the shortstop (who steps on 2nd base) and then the shortstop fires the ball to 1st base.
1-Pitcher
2-Catcher
3-1B
4-2B
5-3B
6-SS
7-LF
8-CF
9-RF
My dad taught me that when I was a kid. It's a neat way to easily write down everything that happened in the game!
Have you ever heard announcers say a 1-2-3 double play? Those are rare, it would be cool if you have!

Is Jarred Parrott of Keene N.H going to be in the 2007 Pro Baseball draft?
they say that cause they are refering to the positions that are involved in the double play not sure how they are numbered. but for instance lets say the ball goes to the ss being number 4 2nd base being 6 and 1st being 3 that would be a 4-6-3 double play.If Bonds hit the record breaker homerun in the All Star game. Would it count?
When scoring baseball, each position is given a number. Pitcher(1), Catcher(2), 1B(3), 2B(4), 3B(5), SS(6), LF(7), CF(8), and RF(9). A 4-6-3 double play would be a grounder to the second baseman, who threw to the shortstop at second, and the shortstop threw to first.Re-post: who wins?? new york or boston??
4-6-3 refers to the position number of the players. most double plays are when the 2nd baseman (4) throws the ball to the shortstop (6) that is covering 2nd, and then throws the ball to the 1st baseman (3).second to short to first
Every position on the diamond had a numeric code and every type of play an alpha code. Between them, anyone can keep track of what's happening during a game. That's called keeping score.

Keeping score helps you enjoy the game more. With little more than quick, simple math, you can see how many strikeouts a pitcher has, how many runners were left on base, etc. You can throw the scorecard in a drawer and find it 20 years later and go back and replay the game in your mind.
