What do you think is baseball's biggest rivalry?
You're probably throwing watermelons during batting practice. You don't want to do that. Throw HARDER than the pitcher they will be facing will throw. They might not hit much in batting practice, but when they see regular pitches in the game, the ball will be a watermelon then.so your players got stage fright...big deal...its just a game...let them have fun for crying out loud.
Teach the kids to choke up on the bat and shorten their swing during game.
use different pitchers during batting practice and teach them to look for the release point of the ball.
Are there any tolls or bridges on the way to Yankee Stadium?
Try throwing BP at game speed. Your arm will hate you at the end of the season ,but your kids will become better hitters because of it. Throw a 5 gallon bucket of balls to each kid and encourage them to swing at anything even remotely close to the strike zone.Try this warm up drill before games. Have a kid stand about 6 foot in front of a driving net or tall fence in batting stance. Face him kneeling on one knee from about 6 feet out of the reach of his or her bat and underhand toss balls into the strike zone for them to drive into the fence. It forces them to watch the ball hit the bat, and react without much time to track the ball. You'll be amazed how much good tossing a dozen balls to each kid improves their hitting.
What is the best place to buy a slow pitch softball bat for less than $100?
I have been a coach too, i know how this works.choking up helps if they are late on their swings.
if a pitcher is wild, tell the kids to make him throw strikes, if not, tell them to be aggressive and go get it.
the thing that helped out on occasion w/me was "wake up the bats" we hadn't hit all game and were getting bombed 5-0 in our last at bat, i was frustrated and called them in a circle grabbed all the bats and put them in the middle and started shaking a couple of bats and telling them to wake up. of course they laughed because they knew they were good, just didn't have it that day, but it made them relax, have fun and take swings they should have been taking all along. our 1b hit first, right over the rf fence, only team homerun all yr. we lost 6-5, but we scored 5 runs that inning... it worked so well, i did it two other times and we scored each time.
