Does anyone think Roger Clemens, at 44 or 45 yrs old, is worth 28 million dollars a year?
Question:Ok, another opinion question, but the Yankees recently gave a contract to Roger Clemens that, with incentives and performance bonuses could land him 28 million dollars for 1 year of work. Does anyone think ''the rocket'' is really as good as he has always been at his age, or are the yankees so much in trouble with the starting pitching injuries that they have to pay Mr Clemens this much just to draw him out of retirement to pitch for them? This of course knowing he may not today be worth 28 million.

28 Million Dollars for a 45 year old is ridiculous. They should try to spend that money on developing some pitching. If the Yankees stopped getting rid of prosepects for players that are ME ME ME, maybe they would win another World Series. I mean look at the roster when they won it in '96...no A-Rod, Giambi, Abreu, Randy Johnson, Clemens. They were just a bunch of guys that loved to play and contributors. Even Jeter was what a Rookie or in his 2nd year. They are going to have to learn sometime or another. But for now, it is fun to watch them Buy High for players that aren't playing that well. to the Yankees, 28 mil is nothing... they can spend it wherever, and whenever. i dont rele care if its getting a good pitcher in. Clemens isnt worth that much, and its just to draw him out of retirement as u said.It's tough to get quality pitchers to sign one-year contracts, so overpaying is the only option. Although I don't believe in the Yankees overall strategy right now, I'd rather see them give out a huge one-year contract to a proven pitcher than a very large multi-year contract to a pitcher that is unproven in a large-market, like NY.

I think all professional sports players are paid too much for what they do, don't get me wrong, I love sports, especially baseball. For any team he's not worth that contract.
