In baseball, at what point does a foul ball to the catcher become a foul out instead of a strike?

Question:On a 1-1 count, a batter swings and tips a ball into the catchers mitt, strike 2. Or, on a 1-1 count, the batter swings and pops the ball up behind the plate in foul territory. The catcher catches it, the batters out. At what point does it change from a strike to an out, is it by how high the ball goes?

Please, for the love of all things good about baseball, don't believe any of the standard nonsense you're going to get for answers. There is NOTHING in the rules that says that the ball must be hit above the batter's head, the catcher's head, more than so many feet off the ground, etc. for the ball to be caught for a foul-out. These people will not be able to support their argument with a citation.

The rules define a foul tip as a batted ball that goes "sharp and direct" from the bat to the catcher's hand or mitt and is then legally caught. Furthermore, the rules state that a batter is out when "his fair or foul fly ball (OTHER THAN A FOUL TIP) is legally caught by a fielder" (emphasis added).

Therefore, a batted ball that does not fit the description of a foul tip can be caught in flight for an out.

What size is a Rawlings Baseball Glove model # RBG60T?

On a 2-strike count, if the batter makes contact with the ball but the catcher manages to corral it without the ball hitting the dirt but with the catcher not moving from behind the plate, it's a strike-out.

If the catcher has to leave his position to catch the ball, it's a pop up on any count. But the ball can come back into fair territory and be caught there, just as it can stay in foul territory to be caught. Either way, if it's caught, no matter the count, and no matter which fielder catches it, it's an out.

Its is an out if the ball goes above the catchers head (while standing up). Also, if the guy has 2 strikes on him, foul tips it, and the catcher catches it, its an out.

Ryan is all over this -- there is not a height requirement. If it is not a foul tip it is a batted ball in foul territory. one or the other.
He deserves the points because he beat me to it and he has the rules book terminology to back it up, not sandlot rules.
