Different eras are hard to compare with each other. Pre-steroids Bonds had a combination of speed and power that Hank didn't have. Aaron had to put up with more adversity (like death threats from racists who did not want him to break the record) and still was a great palyer. I do not think you can compare the two.Bonds. He's not well-liked, and there's all the steroids stuff, but Bonds, in his prime, was a gold-glove fielder, hit for power and average, drew (and continues to draw) a lot of walks, could steal bases and bunt and throw and rob opposing hitters of home runs, etc. Bonds is, and was, the whole package---the best all-around player since Willie Mays.

Better Balls

Slicker Pitches
These days, cut fastballs, split-fingers and sliders factor in with situational pitching to keep hitters off their heels. The year 2001 saw 6.67 strikeouts per game--almost 2.5 times more than in 1927.

With a 17-in.-wide plate, a 6-ft.-2-in. player in 1927, like Babe Ruth, had a strike zone of roughly 545 sq. in. By 2001, rule changes shrank the zone of a 6-ft.-2-in. player, like Barry Bonds, to about 410 sq. in.
So how do these two elite sluggers stack up statistically? A quick look at the numbers shows that Ruth took fewer games and at-bats than Bonds will have to, to get to 714 home runs. However, there's more to the story. People may have the impression that Ruth played in the dead-ball era, referring to the first two decades of the 20th century, when a softer ball was used, but he actually played in a better offensive environment than Bonds. The proof? The average hitter during Ruth's day batted .285, while .262 has been the norm during Bonds's career.

The obvious answer to this question is Aaron, and it is.But people tend to overlook what Barry Bonds did in his career. Steroids or none he made some amazing accomplishments. He stole 500 bases, he has hit 746 homers (which is still amazing even with steroids), He single-handedly keeps the Giants competiteve.
Although Aaron made his accomplishments without steroids, Bonds still deserves credit for the amazing accomplishments he has achieved himself.

Let me preface this by stating that I'm no fan of Barry Bonds, steroid use or not. And I'm going under the assumption that he never used steroids, or at least no proof will ever be offered. That being said, I think Bonds gets the nod in a close one over Aaron.Hank Aaron was and is a classy guy and was a classy player, never complained, was a decent fielder and runner. I still vividly remember watching on TV the night he broke Ruth's record. I thought it was cool, not being a Brave fan or anything.
Barry Bonds in the early part of his career was a solid, if not exceptional fielder, a good runner and a clutch bat. If you look at the numbers, Bonds wins overall, although Aaron's numbers are awesome. Also, remember that Bonds hasn't had a lot of protection in the lineup around him, which is why he gets all those walks. Aaron hit next to Eddie Mathews, another of the all-time great home run hitters.
Statistically, it's Henry Aaron.

Not sure why everyone still accuses him of taking steroids. Barry never had any positive tests for steroids proven by MLB or any independent medical testing lab that was revealed to the public.Hank only had the HR record, otherwise he was just an ordinary "star" player. Barry won the POY many more times than Hank. Barry also lead Hank in other offensive categories. Hank received death threats during his quest for beating Ruth's record. I know the sentimental favorite is Aaron, but the clear, easy answer is Bonds. Aaron was a very good player for a very long time; he won 1 MVP. Bonds has 7 MVP's. Aaron was rarely regarded as the best player at the time... Mays and Mantle were easily ahead of Aaron. Bonds has often been regarded as the best player in baseball, both pre-steroid allegations and after. (By the way, I don't think anyone thinks he is doing steroids at this point, but the sucker just keeps hitting.) The most important basic offensive statistics are on base percentage and slugging percentage... Bonds has led in OBP 9 times (and currently leads the NL this year) and SLG 7 times (and currently leads the NL). Aaron = OBP 0 times, SLG 4 times. Defense? Aaron = 3 gold gloves, Bonds = 8. Speed?
