runs given up per 9 inning. 2 runs in 3 innings = 6 ERAYou need to divide their earned runs by their innings pitched and multiply by nine. So that the ERA is the number of earned runs, on average that a pitchers gives up per nine innings pitched.
Derek Lee, great start, but only one homerun. It's early, but will he win the batting title?
The definition is earned runs per 9 innings. The easiest way to calculate it is multply the pitchers total of earned runs times 9, then divide that by the number of innings pitched.
ER (Earned runs allowed) X 9 / IP (Innings Pitched)
Pease, help needed with my fantasy baseball team.?
Before giving you the calculation, remember that you are only calculating earned runs, any runs scored due to an error or after an error occurs with 2 outs in the inning does not count. So take the earned runs the pitcher has allowed (example 30 earned runs allowed) and multiply it times 9 (30 X 9 = 270) and divide that number by the number of innings pitched (example 90).
30 (earned runs) X 9 = 270 270 divided by 90 (innings pitched) = 3.00 era
earned runs X 9 divided by innings = era
Hope this helps
