Pete Rose: eligible or ineligible for the Hall of Fame and why.?

Question:

Answers:

Are the AZ Diamondbacks slowly working their way to the cellar, or can they still be a threat in the NL west?

He's ineligible.

There's a rule that says, if you bet on baseball, you're banned for life. He broke that rule. He AGREED to a lifetime ban.

You break the balk rule, the runners move up a base.
You break the "doctoring the baseball" rule, like Perry did, you get thrown out of the game.
You break the "betting on baseball" rule, you're banned for life.

Very simple.

Baseball trivia question?

There is no hall of fame when the all time hit leader isn't in it. Did he bet on baseball? Yes. Do his stats on the field make him a hall of famer? Absolutly.

Fantasy Baseball Opinion Please?

he should be in.because he was that good of a player. hey, at least he did'nt kill anybody. o.j. is still in the football hall of fame. makes you think.

Who was your favorite Braves player from the old days?

Defiantly eligible the man was a great baseball player. Your off field matters shouldn't effect your eligibility. The same goes for Keith Hernandez as many gold gloves he has won.

Red sox / Yankees this year, who will win the division.?

Unforunately it's cut & dry. You bet on games and you're out. It's a bit different than when the Black Sox were in on it to lose the '19 Series, and I'd rather see Shoeless Joe and Charlie Hustle in the Hall, but it's not to be.

How many more homers does barry bonds have to catch hank arron?

INELIGIBLE BET ON BASEBALL HE WONT BE REINSTATED BY SELIG EVEN THOUGH ROSE DESERVES IT

Does anybody know why Joe Torre is sitting in George's box instead of on the bench tonight?

ineligible. he was banned from baseball by former commissioner bart giamati (sp) for betting on games while active in the sport.

How soon will Bonds Break the record ?

His career playing numbers say he should be in. The Hall is made for great players not great people. There are a lot of jerks, racists, frauds, crooks, cheats, etc. in the Hall as of now. When did the Hall of Fame become a judge of both character and playing ability?

Are some of you haters really rooting for A-Rod to surpass the Babe?

Check out the rules for eligibility linked below.

I'll quote it too.
"Any player on Baseball's ineligible list shall not be an eligible candidate." - I think that's pretty straight forward.

"No automatic elections based on performances such as a batting average of .400 or more for one (1) year, pitching a perfect game or similar outstanding achievement shall be permitted." - Pete's hits alone are not enough, contrary to what the people say who think he should be in for being the hit king.

Why is he excluded? Well, he gambled on baseball. He also AGREED to his ban. Every clubhouse posts certain rules near the exit to the field, and NOT GAMBLING ON BASEBALL is one of them. They are also read aloud and repeated. Pete knew the consequences.

How about a guy like Joe Jackson? Despite the romanticization in books and movies, the actual consensus of the day was that he was a pretty decent guy. No proof exists against him to suggest that if he actually did agree to throw the game, that he performed in a manner less than stellar. Rose on the other hand, is a piece of dirt even without being a gambler. The sympathy just isn't there for him.

He broke the rules he had spoken aloud himself as a player, and read aloud to his players as the manager, and his punishment, which he agreed to, is banishment from baseball. That makes him inelligible, plain and simple.

Tough question that i know the answer of?

He should be in the Hall. For one the fans want him there (or at least most of them do.) His stats of course speak for themselves being the all time hit king and all. Did he bet on baseball? Maybe, maybe not, but if the NFL will allow someone like Lawrence Taylor (and look what he did) in their Hall of Fame then why cannot someone like Rose get in his sports ultimate shrine. Lastly, when Rose was suspended by Bart Giamatti he was going to "review" the case in one year. Unfortunately, Giamatti died before the case could have been "reviewed." The problem is that the Commissioner Bud Selig doesn't want to discuss any controversial issues that may plague the game whether it's steroids or this. Rose should be, but he never will.

Why does everyone think Billy Beane of the Oakland Athletics is such a good GM?

I spent last summer as an intern at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. We had people try to debate this issue with us all the time. The Hall of Fame's answer is he's in the museum portion because his records are recognized and he has artifacts from his playing days, but he will not in the acutal Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is the portion of the museum that contains all the plaques. From what I heard from voters last summer, Pete Rose will not get into the Hall of Fame because he assumed he was bigger than the game and could get away with anything; including gambling.

What starting pitcher would be a great closer?

Personally, I believe he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame. You can show proof all day that he is ineligible, and he agreed to his ban. But, what if he agreed to the ban under the circumstances that his case would be reviewed? Since that never happened, his eligibility never changed.

He was a hell of a player and he should be recognized accordingly. And somebody made a personality reference in a prior post. You shouldn't be inducted because you are a good guy. You are put there because you impacted the sport.

Need I remind everyone that fame is defined as widespread reputation. It never says good or bad. So, a Hall of Fame should house everyone who plays a part in the history of the game.

What are some good exercises and stuff to do for pitchers?

What part of "permanent ineligibility" do people not understand? He disgraced the sport. Baseball has standards for their Hall of Fame, even if other sports don't.

How is my team? ( please rate from 1-100 )?

Why should a cheater be given the greatest honor? No Hall for Charlie Hustle. Why? Because he cheated.
