How do I hit a softball farther?

Question:I can always make contact, but I normally get singles and doubles, how can I start getting home runs, is there anything I can do in the gym or ine batting cages to develop more power

I studied charlie lau's book on hitting, but I still hit about the same power level. I do get a lot of hits though, which is good, but I would like to improve my power so I can drive in more runs instead of just getting on base in my softball league

1909 cubs cards?

Get in a batting cage and practice w/ a heavier bat (say you are umm 14 you should be using a 34/35 24/25) but practice w/ something like 2/3 oz.& len. bigger. It will build muscle strength. Another thing girls are different than boys. The key thing in softball is repetiton. Over and over, you will gradually build muscle memory and strength. But don't be ashamed of your singl/double record. I've seen travel ball girls who can't hit a single for the life of them.

Oh and not to be mean but the answer b4 mine says grip the bat tighter. (DON'T YOU WILL BE TO WORRIED ON THAT NOT ON YOUR SWING, IF YOU HIT THE BAT THE WRONG WAY IT WILL REALLY REALLY STING, AND IF YOU WERE USING A CNT BAT IT WOULD CONDUCT TO MUCH HEAT AND COULD KILL A PERSON IT'S BEEN DONE). That's why I always recommend composite bats, they are safer and normally legal w/ all major associations.

Are any of the 1990 baseball cards worth anything and if so which ones and how much?

Uppercut Swing + Velocity of swing + One's strength + Speed of pitched ball = HR!

Who has the highest ceiling and eventual major league production?

If this is slow pitch softball...
1. the power is in your wrists
2. swing down (tomahawk) on the ball, and flaten your swing
3. lifting will help a little
4. in slow pitch you can get momentum by running towards the ball then striking it, remember to stay in the box when you do this

Note: uppercutting slow pitch will only pop up or ground ball

if this is fast pitch...
1. swing even faster
2. a small uppercut might help
3. power is in legs and some in wrists

Keep in mind:
This is softball is not baseball, baseball swings hinder your hitting ability in softball, I know from experience of myself and others

Should a rod be called a roid?

Twist your hips
It might seem stupid, but it helps...
power comes from the hips and down, not from the arms and wrists like most people believe... Twist your hips and the ball will go farther

Will Tim Lincecrum be in the Majors soon ?

work the for arms, hr hitters have big forams uppercutting the ball will help, but you'll get alot of pop up

Baseball Equipment?

Swing harder. :)
Actually, just practice more. Don't read Charlie Lau books, because they don't specialize in power hitting.

NOT EVERYONE HITS HOMERUNS

You are a contact hitter, you want to focus on adjusting your swing so that you can place the ball where you want to.
I know playing softball there are plenty of holes inthe outfield.
You are much more valuable going 4 for 5 and getting on base. Than going 1 for 5 with a HR and 4 fly outs.

Who is going to wear #42 on april 15 on each mlb club?

Try a heavier bat. No matter your own strength, the bat weight always becomes an issue. For weaker hits, a lighter bat will help drive it a little bit further. For power hits, heavier bats will drive it harder, faster, and farther.

Try popping your hip first, that always seems to help me, because then you have your full weight, not just upper body, working with you.

Also, if you want some homers or triples, aim for a gap in right or left field (depending on how many bases you'd like to take).

I hope this helps. But the most important thing you can do is practice, practice, practice. Sometimes those nice homers are just from luck and power.

What Pitcher has Thrown The Most No-Hitters?

It difficult to add power to your game, especially if you are a very good contact hitter. Power is usually a natural by-product of the swing. If your swing has a slight downward trend to it you will hit more grounders, level more line drives and uppercut more fly balls. So adding an uppercut to your swing might increase the distance of your batted balls, but it might also cause you to swing and miss more often as the window of opportunity for the bat to meet the ball is shorter.

All that being said, increasing bat speed can also increase power. This can be done in a variety of ways, swinging a lighter bat or swinging something heavy prior to your at bat. Good luck. Personally, since you sound like a good contact hitter, I would recommend trying to "hit em where they aint" turning your singles into doubles, instead of trying to add power to your game and messing with your swing. But then again I like being a line drive hitter.
