Attention all baseball coaches?
Question:The high school team which I coach was down by four runs, after the first inning, to an obnoxious coaching staff/team. Their next batter hit a legitimate 340' shot over our right field fence. While rounding third, I noticed that the runner missed the bag(in order to exchange high fives), with the third base coach. I immediately instructed our pitcher to throw the new baseball to third base, and the runner was ruled out(umpire's call). It was the necessary momentum builder, as our team proceeded to pound the other team by a final score of 18-4. (QUESTION).was it a (explicative deleted) move, on my part to appeal the play? Would it unsportsman-like to appeal the play had the coach NOT been an (explicatice deleted), jerk?

Who was the better baseball player: Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle?
Regardless of this team's coaches and players behaving like bush leagers you did the right thing. Your job as coach is to prepare your players, instruct them well and encourage a love for the game. On game day it is then your responsibility to use your intellect and all tools at your disposal to try and win. After all we are keeping score right? You did what any attentive manager would and should do to take advantage of any opportunity to propel your team toward a victory. Congratulations on the win and good luck with your season.Complaints about Little League?
I am a coach. I would have done the same thing! Amateur baseball is a funny thing, the score can change and sway very quickly. so I would have appealed. Why is Barry Bonds allowed to play anymore. He is more of a joke than O.J. Simpson.?
i think that is fine! you want to give your team all the confdince they can get. it was a nice play on your partHow do you pitch Sinker and Cut fastball?
That is why they have rules in place. If the runner weren't so busy slappin high fives and playing grab ***, then he wouldn't have anything to worry about. And it's just a little touch of pleasure putting foot to butt to someone being a jerk. Good call! Can a person both win and loose the same baseball game?
You are the Coach your supposed to do those things.I am a High School Ump in Missouri and there is no appeal on a play like that if the ump sees it,after the batter-runner crosses home plate time should be called and the offending runner called out.Now if you have to appeal this play chances are the umps did not see the runner miss a base and you wont get the call. And this is never un-sportmanlike conduct,as a coach you do everything in your power to help your team win,with-in the rules of coarseGiants or Dodgers ? 49ers or Raiders ? Warriors or Kings ?
It was the right thing to do. The phrase "touch 'em all" applies at all times. It had nothing to do with whether your team was winning or losing, or by how much. The batter runner broke the rule, tried to cheat in fact, and you saw it. So did the umpire, or he would never have ruled the runner out at third.I'm certain you remember the story about Marv Throneberry early int he Mets' history. He was called out for not having touched the bag at first on a HR and Casey Stengel was going to argue the point with the umpires. Throneberry stopped him and said don't because he had also missed second.
Honesty always counts, from both side.
Can someone please teach me how to catch and throw a baseball?
i THINK THAT IT WAS A VERY GOOD CALL BECAUSE IF MY BASE BALL TEAM WAS DOWN THAT MUCH i WOULD DO ANYTHING THAT I COULD POSSIBLE.What is that hand signs that Sammy Sosa does?
No, it wasn't wrong of you, if anything it was the right thing to do. You taught both teams the rule and the value of following the rules.Do u think the braves will make it to the world series?
If it were 8 year olds it would be bush but if HS if a kid doesn't touch a base they deserve what they get. As a coach I wouldn't be mad at you I would be mad at the kid who missed the base.Who is the only player to win the world series, the batting title and a gold glove in the same year?
No, you did the perfectly correct thing. Congrats, by the way.WHEN IS THE RED SOX SEASON OPENER ON ESPn?
Of course not! I play high school baseball. If I were playing 3rd while he missed 3rd and didnt even acknowledge that one of your fellow coaches tried to give him a high five! You bet I would! Touching all of the bases is the most basic thing in the game, and it's not hard to do -- especially when there's an award involved. It isn't "bush" at all to appeal a base running infraction -- even if you're talking about 8-year-olds.Can someone give me advice on how to make my fantasy team better?
Great call by you to notice. Arunnere has to touch all bases in correct order to legally score a run. REmember the rule change in HS about 3 yrs ago your pitcher did not have to throw the ball to third; all you had to do ws step out and ask the umpire for the dead ball appeal. ( it is no longer an automatic call as someone would have you think)PS I have called out a runner for missing home on a hoimerun before -- another story for another time
